This is Warf which I got at FGL (a Canadian seller). They lost it and I was determined to save it. Even when I did not dig it a few years it managed to survive - maybe I have the only stock. It made more tubers than usual this past year, so I hope to multiply it. Its an A sized bloom.

todgor Oh my, what a beauty! I’m so glad you came back with a photo, Google was not generous with info on Warf. No pressure maintaining the very last stock - I’m happy you’re continuing to keep this one with us! With A sized blooms, I bet this one is magnificent to lay eyes on.

todgor - if you have enough extras, (and after getting it back to FGL) 'd love to get a tuber or cutting. A big focus of my collection is doing just what you did with this one. Preserve the rarities so they don't go extinct. LOVE that you saved this one!! The more people growing them the better. Especially if they're growing in different parts of the country so that if one area has horrific weather (and losses as a result) other parts of the country might be just fine.

I'm not sure this is the best place for this because I'm not necessarily ISO, but I've been wondering about the Giraffe dahlia; is Pink Giraffe a sport? If so, would it ever sport back to yellow/orange? And does anyone still grow Tahoma Giraffe? And does RaeAnn’s Gemini almost have a similar, lateral striped color pattern? (Lobaugh's photo)

Krista I think Pink Giraffe may be a sport of Giraffe. I'll have both this year for the first time but other friends have had both for some time. Nobody has said Pink Giraffe reverts back. I think it's fairly stable. I haven't seen Tahoma Giraffe but I LOVE RaeAnn's Gemini!

And does anyone still grow Tahome Giraffe? I asked Les Connell before he died about his Tahoma Giraffe and he had lost it. Never have seen it anywhere. And does RaeAnn’s Gemini almost have a similar, lateral striped color pattern? Yes, in spades.

Teddahlia (starting a new discussion for this) Thank you for answering all of my questions about Giraffe. Are there other dahlias that have the same lateral color pattern that are still in existence? And can specific color patterns like this be bred for with intention?

AKWindWatcher Oh I’ll be really excited to see your photos of the Giraffes this summer! I was able to find a Pink Giraffe that I’m really excited about. How does it do as a tuber producer and how would you rate it in storage? RaeAnn's Gemini will be new to me this year also and I’m really happy that she comes with such a glowing report, I do think she’s very intriguing!

I had a seedling that looked like Giraffe offspring for a few years but regrettably lost it before we moved. I. remember Les was quite interested when I showed it to him. It would have been a random seedling when I first started saving seeds and growing them.

Teddahlia Wow! This has me very excited about this one - I just love those stripes. It's a total weirdo, that's for sure, but I think it'll be really fun!

Clack’s used to sell a giraffe dahlia but I could never snag it - do you know if Clacks will ever go back to selling tubers online? I know from Cubit’s chats you have often visited with Ginger Clack and her amazing garden

Re Ginger Clack: My second hand knowledge is that they did not dig the dahlias. She got her hip replacement(knee?) and was recovering a few weeks ago.

Krista Well, yes, that is the fun of it and why I "need' to keep buying tubers. I need their genes to try out for varieties sake! Never know what will come out next in one.

If its Tioga in my experience its awesome. I grew Tioga Love Song and saw it listed on a seller opened today but the picture was not it. These are getting harder to get. I also grew Tioga Dawn and Tioga Maiden (below in 2017).

todgor I had to go check it out, since I try not to list that sort of thing, and I am less sure it's a misname as someone from a similar climate to them. Depth of laciniation depends a lot on temp and the variety pictured had split tips on all the petals if you zoom in, and the coloring and pattern is the same.

todgor I've managed to find Lovesong, Chantilly, and Autumn but I've yet to find anyone with Maiden or Dawn. Do you happen to still grow these? Or know anyone with whom I should check?

Anybody have any leads - or even in the general realm of a lead - on Carmen Rose Ann or Carmen Peachy? John Sullivan lost both of these varieties of his and there's an ongoing effort to try and get them back into his hands.

AKWindWatcher Our dahlia society's member sale is this Tuesday and I'll put those on my list and let you know if I find them. I've found a lot of treasures in previous years.
