Teddahlia I’m not sure which one would actually be most likely to fade if it were a synthetic hair color. It’s been over 20 years since cosmetology school! If I were to guess today though, I’d choose maybe DR-2. The deeper shades would have more blue and the lighter shades may have more yellow stacked in to help fill. The truer reds might have less building pigments that would serve to hold the red color and prevent it from falling out of the hair cuticle. Maybe? I hope there’s someone on here who has more recent education or a better understanding and can fact-check what I’m saying. 🤨

Krista i'm no chemist or hairdresser, but I love red dahlias, have tried many, and have noticed that the true reds - the red-reds- don't fade.

Reds with more blue in them seem to fade more quickly in the hottest sunniest weather. I suppose they need more shade.

Krista It's still common for many red pigments to fade the fastest. Visible light is radiation. I think it's a little wacky that we have these radiation sensors that our brain uses to map our surroundings via the waves bouncing off of it. Anyway, Items that are bouncing away only the least energetic, safest visible radiation (reds) are therefore absorbing all of the more energetic and damaging wavelengths (the rest of the spectrum of visible radiation). I understand it's not just a radiation issue but also some of the more common red pigments are especially vulnerable for structural reasons at the molecular level.

John must of opened at 6 am. I am in the same time zone as him lol happy I got a few really wanted hollyhill day dream WL after seeing so many amazing pictures of it here.

I was able to get Hollyhill Carefree, Purple Joy, and Crazy Julia.

NCDahlia Oh the Hollyhill WL tubers keep slipping through my fingers. I did get 20th Ave Softer Peach to add to my collection of peach ball shaped dahlias. I guess you can’t have too many. And for some reason I put one called Big Bend Tony in my cart after I lost some of the others. I’d never ever heard of it!

Only 5 of the 14 I had bookmarked were sold out when I stumbled on his site at 5:45 EST.
I sure got out of bed fast! I still only bought 2 because the ones I really wanted were in the
group of 5.

20th Ave softer peach is a great one. Have grown it, I like all of Rich Gibson's dahlias nice hybridizer.

I am just glad I will have dahlias to grow in 2024 lol. I really need to not participate in anymore dahlia sales this year... my wife is going to lose her mind when 20 dahlia tuber boxes show up in April 🤣

NCDahlia Oh glad to hear it! I tried to get Memory too, but didn’t move fast enough. Oh well! Nice to try things bred in Maryland, since I’m in VA and the weather challenges are similar.
Maybe you need to stage a distraction for tuber delivery season. Or work out a plan with the mailman 😂

I woke up at 6a and checked my phone. I was 2 hours late for opening I think but was happy 20th Ave Mom was still available, and got a few others including HH Regal. Missed my #1 which was 20th Ave Pink Cloud. Next year 😁

I got the impression from Instagram that it would be early early, so I set a lot of early alarms to wake up and check the site…. 🤪. Not the best night of sleep I’ve ever had…

I got HH Carefree, 20 Pink Cloud, 20 For Mom, and a number of other non-new-intros. Pretty thrilled!

Juliarugula I feel like we’d have a lot of fun dahlia-shopping together, too bad we live so dang far apart!

I also decided to sacrifice sleep last night. I scooped the HHs and 20th Aves I had been extra hoping-hoping for, and some older varieties with very fair prices. I was sweatin’ this sale so hard and, while shopping in the wee hours of the night (for anything) is not my jam, I can confidently say this morning, on short sleep, it was worth it to me.

KitCMC Yea must of been 2:30 or 3 AM EST then. I am happy with what I got but next year I would like Hollyhill Daydream / Hollyhill Lilibet. If I was waking up super early my wife would say "its me or the dahlias" 🤣

I told her this is my Amazon prime Christmas shopping for myself lol plus I am supporting many small businesses 😀

To be fair, as an ESTer, I still had to basically get up in the middle of the night to hit this one…. It was pretty much when any normal American would still be asleep, no matter where you live.

bloomhjelm I just know that no matter when they opened, people would be deciding how they feel about it. It would be feelings about the site being slow or malfunctioning due to being slammed or feelings about seeing things disappear from their cart or having to pay shipping multiple times on small orders. There is no path a supplier can take that will not leave some people grumbling. I see all the reviews people leave about it. Only being able to easily fill every order would change the dynamic, and then some people would find it kind of boring and wander off to find a unicorn to pursue. 😂

‼️ But, at least nobody will be complaining about having to refresh all day! It’s hard to win for the sellers. I checked after midnight then went to bed. Next year I know 😁

Juliarugula I was up for a couple of hours afterward too; we could have been dahlia-dancing together! Here’s to hoping we can sneak in a cat nap sometime today.
