PegMc Thought to share now that I'm getting those impulse buy roses planted, I am VERY impressed with the quality of bare root stock sent to me by Menagerie. Not so much those from Heirloom Roses - Night & Day DIFFERENCE. The canes on the bare root/Menagerie selections are a good 5X times larger than those of the Heirloom Rose selections which are puny and sad looking. Very disappointed!

Teddahlia I don't know, but it's the only African Daisy I grow.

Teddahlia Does it produce seeds? Price per 4" pot is $22-$29 (quick Inet search). :-/

I guess the one I grow is Zion Copper Amythyst. Annie's sells it. It's one of those things that one might find inexpensively at a nursery or big box store IF they happen to stock it. Not sure if Osteospermum named varieties tend to come true from seed.

I've had a lot going on so I haven't done a walk around to see what's coming alive in the yard since last week and the change since then is wild! All the sedum varieties have exploded in growth. The onions, sugar snap peas, poppies, and nigella have made themselves known in the vegetable garden and I found my first strawberry blossom too. 😊

Margaret wanted to find this cali and many times they use all of the new ones in hanging baskets and do not sell individual plants. She never did find it and she refused to pay $40.00 for the basket. It has pretty eye zone.

Not flower related but this is my garden already. Been a very busy spring and have yet to plant out tubers because still too wet. Garden I started everything from seed under grown lights. I have sweet corn, sweet peppers. 4 rows of potatoes, and 90 tomato plants. I have cucumbers and water melons but I won't plant those out till middle of May. I will get a few pictures of the blueberries when they start blue-ing up.

Snow peas, beets, swiss chard, a few other china cabbage types and brocoli.

That photo from the garden is mouthwatering! Still too cold to plan out here, inspite of it hitting 90 2 days ago. It is back to 63 today and feels quite chilly, Some of the dahlias I had left in the greenhouse have burned leaves.

Big Beef is the only one on our list. The best tasting tomato I have ever grown was a Brandywine. It's yield and disease resistance is not real good here. Early Girl is number one here. Our own variety the Hollyhill Cherry Tomato was the best tomato we grew last year. It was in a 30 gallon pot and we used 4 foot tall wire mesh fencing to corral the plants. I kept giving it greenhouse fertilizer all summer and the tomatoes were really sweet. It was originally a seedling of a yellow tomato called Sun Sugar that is better than Sun Gold. It is indeterminate and we have been saving seeds for over 10 years now. Never sold it as there are so many tomatoes out there andt who knows if anyone would buy this one.

Teddahlia , I have found the same conclusions with growing tomatoes. The heirlooms can't thrive in my cooler summers, and Big Beef is the winner, replacing Early Girl, for me. To tame the 6'+ cherry tomatoes and a variety called Golden Rave that grows to 7' tall and produces a record breaking amount of produce....a few years ago I convinced my husband to help me build(I supervised😉) unorthodox tomato cages, that can hold the most vigorous growing tomatoes. Not the prettiest, but they hold up to strong autumn winds and 6'+ tall plants.

I forgot to say, if you're selling the cherry tomato seeds (or cuttings), I'll buy some!

This year, I started brandywines (agree with Teddahlia, best tasting tomato ever), cherokee carbon, green zebra, matt’s wild cherry, mushroom basket, sweet million, and sungolds this year. I am ashamed to admit that the dahlias took first fiddle in the grow area this season. Some of my seedlings got a little leggy but I’m trying to bulk them up now. I had no idea there were Hollyhill tomatoes, I’d love to grow these in my garden too, one day! Tomatoes are the very best thing to come out of the garden, besides dahlias of course!

I'd love to try just a couple of plants of that one, Ted. My tomatoes were so good last year but I am always looking for an even better one. As long as I have my Sungolds, then I will try anything else! I am growing in grow bags and had excellent crops of them last year. Still haven't found the best slicing tomato for here but they all taste good when cooked up in a sauce together. I got 3 plants from the seeds one of our group sent me last yearnfrom Indiana, Also trying a Black Krim , Emmy Lou and Legend from Territorial Seeds, Now I am pre-starting all the different squashes and cucumbers. These did very well in the grow bags too and I am trying more of them this year. For those older gardeners of us with stiff knees and backs the grow bags are amazing. I move my little light weight garden stool around and can easily check on all the grow bags or harvest from them. These bagged veggies get to stay in the greenhouse until it finally warms up. This year I am adding salad greens and basil plants to the grow bag garden.
