100F here in Oregon today and forecast is same or hotter tomorrow. Dahlia maintenance is at stands till and watering is all we are doing.

And we are still doing 90's here...94 today. That is too hot for me out in the garden. Lower 80's is my limit. Ah well, it is giving some time for my wrist strain to heal. Wearing a splint helps with that but wrist splint gets a bit hot. I am really looking forward to some nice September days. I would love to spend more time in my garden with my lawn chair and notebook...so many seedlings to record this year!

Now at 95. Weather doesn't show any more temps this high for Sept or the rest of Aug so hope this is the last day of this.

92F here, 30 miles from you. Yesterday it did not get to 90 and was about 86F. Cooler weather is on the horizon.

Seabeck's Hilda should be on a list of dahlias rated by how easy they are to grow. 1 would be grows like a weed and anybody can grow . 5 average. 7 difficult but possible,. 8 generally disappoints you, Seabeck's Hilda . 10 only growers who have won multiple best in show awards. Hilda has very tricky tubers. They appear in the Fall and have disappeared by spring.

Teddahlia I like to grow dahlias that are like weeds. The weedy Dahlia can overcome a lazy gardener, poor soil, weird weather, and survives despite all odds.

SteveM Seabeck’s Hilda has always stored pretty well for me. I don’t think I’ve ever even lost one tuber. (Knock on wood - hope I’m not jinxing myself!)

When you have a dahlia seedling of supreme quality of form and perfection of color and it is deficient in growth habits or tubers, 99% of people do not cull it.

It's going to be in the mid 60s for 4 days and Sunday's low temp is forecasted to be 39 degrees! My dahlias are really late this year and it would be devastating if frost came early.

That dried Kelsey Aria is super cool! Do they hold their petals well when dried like that, or do they have to be mounted or pressed or something to retain their shape?

Juliarugula they hold their shape well as long as the petals aren't folded against something if that makes sense.

Seed pods that are green, freeze in frost. The very dry pods do not. Gathering mostly ripe pods before a heavy frost and ripening(really just drying them) them, works. Yes, there will be a lower germination rate but since seeds in a pod ripen at different times, some will be ripe. One sprouting seed saved from the seed pod has yielded many famous dahlias. Zorro was from a "one seed "pod. Spartacus was too and the now deceased breeder told me that.
