Teddahlia What a tragic story, Ted. I knew Mr. Wynne had died but never knew how. I will cherish the sad little tuber I have of Wyn's King Salmon and try to give it an honorable spot in the garden this year - or get it to someone who will grow it and multiply it. It didn't make good tubers for me or more than a few flowers in the 2 yrs I've tried to grow it. Poor stock maybe. I gave the other tuber away, thinking I was going to cull it from the garden.

I just received a sale announcement from The Dahlia House (opening this evening) - they have Wyn's King Salmon, Wyn's Sensation, Wyn's Aspen Glow, Wyn's Moonlight Sonata, Wyn's Mauve Mist, Wyn's N.E.W. Pastel on their site. There are two episodes (6/18/24 and 7/9/24) of the Dig on Dahlias Podcast that are interviews with Cory Wynne, the second is about her current breeding program.

Does anyone have a source for Tahoma Giraffe? I love the color of Giraffe, but am not a huge fan of the form so it seems like Tahoma Giraffe is the perfect fix to this but there's not much about it online.

I grew it long ago but it usually sells out before I find it available. If you can find someone who grows it maybe you can get a cutting?

I asked the breeder of Tahoma Giraffe(the late Les Connell) about it and he gave me a snippy answer like" "I don't remember it." I have never seen it anywhere in Oregon and wonder if it is extinct.

MIDahlias not sure if you found Mingus Philip II but the Dahlia Hill Society in Michigan just uploaded it as one of the varieties they grow and may have at their sale this year. Probably worth contacting them!

SteveM I’m sorry I’m just now seeing this. Jesse Richard Owen of Get Planted NW is in my Whatcom County Dahlia society, and offered some of these seeds at the last meeting. I believe he got them from Dr. Hammett. I had no spot to plant them, so didn’t take any myself. I will try to remember to check with him, if he still has any extra. He’s a super nice guy, so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind getting a message from you about it, if you want to contact him yourself directly.

SteveM So, I talked with Jesse this morning, and unfortunately he doesn’t have any more of the tree dahlia seeds left. He said he was able to get it originally by first having it shipped to Canada & go through that border customs, and then shipped to the U.S. from Canada going through that additional border customs.

MIDahlias According to my source, Philip Mingus II's aunt, neither of them has Mingus Philip II anymore. Sorry! I will keep you in mind if I find it in my search for all the Mingus varieties.

a dozen of us with Treasure Valley Dahlia Club had our first dahlia sale last weekend...it went pretty well for being our first time 🤣 anyway....our sweet Randy was there & we were speaking about scented dahlias. I had a couple of Honka's there for sale (yellow orchid) & they have a beautiful fragrance 🌸

in my research...I read that "Hy Scent" has a fragrance....of course now I have to have one. Are there any sources for Hy Scent that anyone knows of? what else has a fragrance? I've heard that Karma choc smells like chocolate but I have never grown it

There is a Carina Paredes on the dahlia growers Facebook that has a photo of scented Anenome types all from the same seed parent. I do not have Facebook, just saw the pop up when I searched scented dahlias, so I don’t know if she ever shared who the parent of them was (if so I’d love to know) supposedly hers had a rose fragrance as well.

I just read a story where the main character was gifted a bouquet of dahlias and she enjoyed their scent. It must of been this variety. 😁
