Teddahlia I knew about this fire. Such a tragedy. I just find the Wyn's dahlias to be very special, and I know these two varieties have been floating around in Washington and aren't unheard of. Was hoping to grow some out to enjoy myself and maybe distribute more widely.

I saw some posts in groups of varieties people were trying to find for Cory. I don't think the ones I named were on there, and they definitely didn't have suppliers on DA.

Krista You do know that Cory Wynne is still hybridizing dahlias, I hope. I've been working with seeds from their NEW Pastel line and am getting some very pretty seedlings. They did love the big flowers but I am aiming for nice cut flower sizes and I think this will be year 3 with the first ones. I love how well the Wynne flowers do in the NW climate. And yes, I remember the tragedy very well. They were some of the first breeders I followed and it was such a total shock....and a warning.

MIDahlias not sure if you’re looking for other Mingus varieties but Glenerie Farm just opened this morning and they have Mingus Toni and Mingus Randy listed. I haven’t seen either of those anywhere else this year so far.

Mingus Toni is one of those "It makes so many tubers, I cannot give them away" varieties. An old time commercial seller was asked why he no longer sold Puget Sparkle: He said it makes so many tubers that every one has it and no one would buy it from him. I grew it too and for me it was the most productive tuber maker we have ever grown. Mingus Toni was close and I noticed that it was the easiest one to divide as the eyes always stayed attached to the tubers even when they fell off. We bred Mingus Toni and got Hollyhill Toni that grows 7 feet tall. We last grew it about 15 years ago.

I grew Wyns Sleepyhead. I can’t remember if it was last year or the year before. I still have 5 crates to divide. If it shows up I’m happy to share or trade.

I have a copy of Dahlias of Today 2013 with a lovely photo of Wyn's Coral Reef. So many we are missing now. It's very sad.

Dane Flower Farm sale was this weekend and it was the biggest selection of recent Australian imports that I can think of. I have seen them in little bits elsewhere, but not in a big sale. It was interesting and fun to see how quickly they sold based (I believe) on social media reputation alone. I admit to buying Breannon because of the posts from Bec McConnell at Serenade Dahlias outside of Brisbane. She often mentions using Breannon as a seed parent.

In trading news I am trading a Hollyhill Gold Rush for a Hollyhill Black Magic based on past posts in this forum about Black Magic. 🙂

bloomhjelm So Wyn's Honey Spice seems to still be in existence just north of us in BC. Might be worth seeing if they can get in contact with the Vancouver Dahlia Society and try to work out a way for you to get them back on this side of the border. The Quebec Dahlia Society also has a fairly extensive photo catalog of the Wyn's varieties. It might be worth reaching out to them to see what still might be available through their members and do the same thing on trying to bring lost varieties back to the States.

joepa60 I think, I hope, Wyn's Honey Spice will be in a sale in Lynden on March 29. For anyone keeping score at home I've been able to get tubers of: Aspen Glow, Delta Frank, Delta Margaret, Sleepyhead, Desert Sunrise, Ballerina Belle, Moonlight Sonata, Bewitched, Farmer Walt, Pinking of You, Red Stiletto, Phoenix, Sensation, Waltina, Feisty Freda. I am teaming up with someone who loves Verkists to build quite a good collection of northern WA state beauties.

Both dahlia clubs on Long Island, N.Y. have been searching for a 25 year old variety, "Bernadette Castro", that has vanished. If anyone is aware of any survivors, I'd appreciate being informed. Thanks.

BarryO there is a couple in "my society" that used to live on Long Island and grew dahlias there. Hopefully I'll see them at our meeting next week and I'll ask if they have it.

The ADS ought to freeze in liquid nitrogen some that are historically relevant.

BarryO Another options would be to reach out to the Greater Kansas City society. A woman by the name of Lona Jackson won at the Missouri State Fair in 2021 with a triple of Bernadette Castro. There was also a man in New Mexico, I think, that won some ribbons with it in either 2017 or 2018. Best of luck on your hunt!

Teddahlia What a tragic story, Ted. I knew Mr. Wynne had died but never knew how. I will cherish the sad little tuber I have of Wyn's King Salmon and try to give it an honorable spot in the garden this year - or get it to someone who will grow it and multiply it. It didn't make good tubers for me or more than a few flowers in the 2 yrs I've tried to grow it. Poor stock maybe. I gave the other tuber away, thinking I was going to cull it from the garden.

I just received a sale announcement from The Dahlia House (opening this evening) - they have Wyn's King Salmon, Wyn's Sensation, Wyn's Aspen Glow, Wyn's Moonlight Sonata, Wyn's Mauve Mist, Wyn's N.E.W. Pastel on their site. There are two episodes (6/18/24 and 7/9/24) of the Dig on Dahlias Podcast that are interviews with Cory Wynne, the second is about her current breeding program.

Does anyone have a source for Tahoma Giraffe? I love the color of Giraffe, but am not a huge fan of the form so it seems like Tahoma Giraffe is the perfect fix to this but there's not much about it online.
