Portland Dahlia Society sale and auction was last night. I was one of the two auctioneers. Nothing went for more than $100.00 although some were close. Typical auction price was in the mid 20s and almost nothing was below $10.00. All the Hollyhill donations did well. Several people donated several Hollyhiil varieties as I only donated new ones except for HH Letitia. Speaking of Letitia there were 3 tubers there and I believe it sold for something like $45.00. I had my checkbook and credit card with me but did not buy anything and the one I was looking for was not there(Hollyhill Sir J. Paxton).
Mark Harvey of Old House Dahlias was there and bought several things. He lives over 100 miles away nowadays. I took just a few pictures and this one was a rather random shot and these three women did bid on quite a few auction items. Karen Sanchez (ADS Classification Chair) kept track of the winning bids for the club and also bought several bargains that she knew were worth the money.
The auction went on for about two hours and there were some good bargains but mostly things went for good money. A surprise high dollar one was Suitzus Julie that approached $100.00 for the only micro waterlily that is about 20 years old now. Czarny Charakter, the blackest dahlia , went for about $80.00. And then after the tubers sold a pot tuber got the same money. ![](https://forum.dahliaaddict.com/assets/files/2024-04-10/1712765146-283867-img-3281.jpg)
