I find the best selection for myself at society sales and auctions. Last night, I went to an auction. I highlighted what I was interested in and had an idea of what I would like to pay for each, expecting to pay more than what I would pay online. (it's an auction) I was trying to keep track of all the winning bids, therefore, not keeping an eye on the little one next to me throwing her hand in the air. Thank goodness the prices were very reasonable, because my five-year-old caught on to bidding real quick. She won the bids on three before my first highlight, (The winning bids were low, so I only stopped her when there were others bidding or if we already had it)
We came home with 3x what I expected to purchase, and my check was 1/3 less than what I budgeted. I won the bid on everything I went for except for one. I did manage to come home with Mother's Love. There were two tubers and three bidders. I thought the third bidder would last longer, but they dropped out early.
Auctions are funny because you never know what the crowd is interested in. I grow Felida Splendor, love it. (always globe like for me.) I can't recall how many FS tubers were donated (I think three) No one bid. After a few awkward seconds I raised my hand at the $5.00 bid level. Then some others raised their hands too, I backed out (since I grow it) It did sell, but I was surprised hands didn't fly up for it.
I donated 4 that I thought would do well in the auction. One received pity bids, two did good and "Jennie" went for the third highest bid of the evening.
So much FUN!!!
