Teddahlia I know about the variety because I joined the San Leandro Dahlia Society where he is a member. Someone said they asked him about getting it, and he told them he wasn't growing it anymore so I had thought it might be extinct. The "Eden" varieties are his and others.

blown_dry speaking of Vecca Lucia, I thought I had it wishlisted in DahliaAddict and has seen it as an “orphaned” variety. So I went to check if it was for sale anywhere.

So my orphaned wishlisted dahlia says “Veca Lucia”, but an active variety shows as “Vecca Lucia”. I’m assuming this is an accidental double entry, not two distinct dahlias? (Thought I should make sure before I abandon my orphan…)

Because I am in CA orders are starting to come in, but it's constantly pouring rain outside so I dislike the idea of potting them up. I'll just have to get over it.

@blown_dry I can't wait to see pictures. I'm SOOOO excited to grow Eden Talos this year! @Teddahlia did you, or maybe someone else?, mention that he bred Elsie? Would love to try that one if I can find it!

blown_dry This was one of the first dahlias I ordered for 2024, from FGL Dahlias in Quebec. I hope it shows up ok. Also from him: Camano Susan, Bloomquist Dandelion, Maks Betty Lynn and Wyn's Mardi Gras. Wyn's Mardi Gras looks really fun. I haven't seen Camano Susan elsewhere this year and I hope it's as pretty as the photo. Weirdly though the other photos I have found show it very bright coral red.

I haven't purchased from them before and I see the reviews are a little mixed. Unfortunately for me I make a lot of risky bets when it comes to getting dahlias I might not get elsewhere. I've made purchases from two farms in Canada and one in Latvia that were willing to do phyto. Not the Latvian sellers on Etsy, that's a whole nother bag of chips.

I noticed the Elkhart Dahlia association is selling some tuber lots on eBay. It says local pickup but then in the description it says if you ask nicely they might ship.

I've ordered from there over the years. Tubers arrive in good condition and grow well.

blown_dry I did last year and the tubers were great but quite large. They were also generous in that several had a couple viable tubers together.

well i placed 1 more dahlia order i just could not help myself lol got fifi and now im done for the year my wife is going to be so annoyed with the 20 orders? not my fault voles killed 70% of my stock tho lol

bloomhjelm I took a risk on 2 different Latvian Etsy sellers....live & learn 🤦I did get tubers but not the varieties I ordered ☹ It wasn't a huge investment but I ordered Czarny C, Molly R, Manor Jayne & other unicorns. I received Myrtles Folly, Genova & other basic common dahlia varieties instead. Their sites were already down when I wanted to leave a review.

Dahlia Obsession is open. I saved myself money by forgetting my phone and not getting the notice! Wouldn't have minded Tahoma Tailspin.

LoriDee Thanks for letting us know. I have had good luck with handcrafted items from eastern Europe bought on etsy, but I didn't know tubers were a thing.

The Portland Dahlia Society tuber sale and auction will be on April 9th beginning at 6PM(double check that time as it may be later, like 6:30 or 7). Location will be at the Oaks Amusement Park and there is a $3.00 parking fee. You must be a member of the Society to buy at the sale. Sales prices will be color coded and the categories are $6, $8, $10 and $12. There will be pot tubers , tubers and rooted cuttings sold. The auction will be a wild affair and I never get out my wallet to bid enough for anything. If there is an online sale to the public(probably), it will consist of overstock and leftovers after the members sale. Having used those negative words, there will be some bargains.
Kenora Wow, the brightest colored dahlia I have ever seen. In full sun it fades to one of the worst dahlias I have ever seen.

PDS tuber sale! Yes SIR! I hope Mr Calico is all back on track by then and can drive me in for it! I will start collecting donations. I have no desire to sell my tubers myself.

I am very excited for dahlia club sales.

For online sales I slept through Kale Lane and got the date wrong for Dahlia Obsession. I doubt I could have beat the waterlily enthusiasts anyway. But I was pleasantly surprised at new supplier Northway and got JS Janice, Oscar Emil and Pop Willo. Then in the mail - the first deliveries starting. I unwrapped them but still haven't put them in their warming up bags. That lot is Corn Bride, Mrs. Swanee Hunt, Hollyhill Bewitched. HH Bewitched, Wicked Witch, and Maleficent all look so fun.

I missed Kale Lane too! They have such a beautiful collection.

Honestly I should miss every sale for the rest of the season. For someone who said they weren't shopping much this year, I shopped a lot this year. Oops!
