Tuber check today and I have crowns getting damp and some with a little fuzz. I can only store them on the garage. Happens every year at this time.

72 fabulous sunny degrees today! I haven't had time for dahlias but I got the Columbia Blackberries pruned and tied up. I was so sore I could hardly walk to the house and I may never move again...I have a new variety of the Columbia Thornless blackberries this year. They have the taste of our fabulous little wild blackberries in a large thornless berry. They do have little prickles but not the big thorns that can tear the skin. We are supposed to have 2 more days of this lovely weather before it cools again. If we have to have heat waves I would llike all of mine to be mid March!

calico20hill Which Columbia cultivar(s) do you have and which do you recommend? Columbia Star and Columbia Giant sound like varieties I would like to add to my collection.

We had 8" yesterday morning. The second day storm that was supposed to hit overnight last night completely missed us again.

katyaker I haven't tasted the new one yet but the other two are wonderfully yummy. The Columbia Giant are impressive but I don't think I have had huge amounts off it. My berry patch is not the best one to judge from however/. The berries like well drained soil. My whole property is heavy clay but it is on a slope so in the summer they do well with regular watering. I think your plants would grow better on better soil then I have. I have not tried the new one yet, but it is now on hand and potted up while hubby recovers from his heart surgery. We I will plant when he can dig the holes for me again. I don't see a heavy set on my Columbia Giants but they add a wonderful flavor when mixed in with the other berries. I think I get more fruit off the Columbia Star.

I'm not one who wants my tubers early. I think in the past only Ferncliff has mailed early April. 2024 I received a package last week and just received notice another is in the way.

I've had enough of the weather reports changing day by day. I took a screen shot of the 10 day weather forecast two days ago. No snow in the forecast. Now its said we are going to get a big snow storm this week. I hope the temps stay around 30ish and tubers are packed well.

I've got the next three days off and it's supposed to be in the 70's for at least the next ten days! Looks like I'll get to start digging up my tubers and hopefully everything survived. It was a pretty mild winter so the odds are really good.

It looks like we live between "Freeze warning" and "Frost Advisory" on the weather map for tonight. I wonder what the difference is?

We escaped what may well be the last of the potential frosts for us this season. Gorgeous clear skies this morning! I have started getting my potted growing dahlias used to sunshine...
