calico20hill I have met one glorious human who grows dahlias here — over 1,000 plants up in Selah which is just north of Yakima. We connected in a Yakima gardening group I joined on Facebook (trying to find chicken feather meal and Potassium sulfate locally — which I struck out on).
She stopped by last Friday to gift a few cuttings as a “welcome to the area” and it was a joyful moment to meet someone in person who loves growing dahlias as much as I do. She’s been generously fielding my questions so far with lots of patience; I’ve had lots of questions!
The closest society is, as luck would have it this year, The North Central Washington Dahlia Society (NCWDS). That being said, it’s two hours away so joining for in-person meetings and events won’t be frequent.
The person I’ve been connecting with locally has considered starting a new society here in the Yakima area but hasn’t had any luck receiving a response from the ADS when inquiring about that process. Does anyone here have any direction for how to get started with this?
