Thanks! Mine was from Lobaugh’s - could be differences in sun/shade/temperature too, I suppose. I’m pretty thrilled with it!

Would these be considered wolf petals, or is it a wolf petal if there’s only one? (There’s another bloom on the plant and it doesn’t have any).

Teddahlia Wondering for variegated varieties, would completely solid-colored petals be considered wolf petals? And for judging, would that be considered undesirable?

Missy, Your Salish Twilight Girls look wonderful! . I have 6 or 7 in my garden but all seem to have reverted to the lighter red violet back. I really like the darker back much better and love the way it makes the silver petal tops stand out. One of the seedlings my neighbor is growing out for me has the darker back and I Am hoping it does well and makes tubers to share back to me.

And today I found 2 more plants opening with the darker backs on the flowers. Whew!

calico20hill oh good! If for some reason your stock with the darker petal reverse doesn't stay that way, please just PM me your address and I'll mail you tubers from mine this fall. I traded with a friend for the STG I have and I'm not sure where she got hers originally. The leaves look very healthy, and despite selling cut flowers I actually do sanitize my snips between plants and I know she does as well. 😊

Solid petals on a variegated flower are a color fault. It must be in the judges manual as it is not in the classification book. Using the term wolf petal on a variegated bloom implies that it is a wolf petal and it is not in the sense that wolf petals had a slight genetic change that causes the solid color. Variegated flowers are caused by transposons and solid florets are very common as the transposon turns on and off in a somewhat random way and if it is off for a long time the floret is solid.

MissyWeitzel Missy, that is a wonderful offer and I will keep it in mind! I also plan to start sellecting only those with the darker backs for seed collection. I have a lot of stock with the more silvery light look .

September Morn. The one in the bottle was cut a few minutes ago. The one in the mustard jar (hanging out with Creamy and Wine-eyed Jill) was cut three days ago (it looked just like the other when it was cut). Interesting how the deep raspberry color has faded so much. I like it both ways.

ChrissyPDX I find it interesting how much September Morn has a similar form to Gay Princess pictured below. I wonder if they are genetically related.
