Thank you for the new fields to add profile details. I really enjoy being able to hover over user icons and learn locations and zone. It's helpful for providing context to some of the discussions.
New Forum Questions and Discussion
I would like to edit past posts... it seems like I can't after 24 hours or so???
Specifically, I want to delete my Christmas card image on the Open thread, as it is in the public space and I don't like my kids being visible for too long like that. Sharing with this community = cool; sharing with search bots = creepy.
Done.
CiCiVacation The default setting only allowed editing until someone replied to the post. I've changed it to allow editing indefinitely.
What a bizzare default... well, thanks for changing it!
Mr. BlownDry, you are appreciated, sir!
CollaretteQueen That was all so long ago! I am sure it was a random seedling from another collarette in my patch but I have no idea now what it might have been!
CiCiVacation For a general use forum, I understand it. It's the default so previous posts can't be changed to make later replies have a different meaning and so quotes don't go out of sync with the posts quoted.
Not all forum users are as nice and polite as the ones on this one.
User 1: I love A La Mode!
User 2: I love it, too!
User 1: <edits original post> ==> I love Cafe Au Lait!
User 3: <thinks> Hmm, I better watch out for User 2, they like Cafe Au Lait.
I think we should ban User 2 from the forum.
Having the ability to modify a post allowed me today to have one post versus three. I made a short discussion, modified post to add an image much later, modified again to add additional information. I think having the added functionality of modifications of discussions has its advantages, but there will be inherent disadvantages that most of the time will be harmless. But, in terms of "risk" of the change, we're not discussing topics, such as prescribing doses of medication, that if given the wrong dose, can kill you.

Why it's useful to include a quote if you are referring to a particular post.
SteveM Love your qoute about "Blind farmers". I was diagnosed with a rare eye condition a couple of years ago and it constantly trips me up with things like mispelling "Calico" but accidently doubling the "l" and my eyes not sorting it out. So my name on here is supposed to be "calico20hill" but about 3 days after I set it up, I reallized I had gotten an extra "l" iin it and my eyes didn't sort it out.)Amanda, is there any way to take the extra "l" out of callico and make it calico20hill? I catch a lot of others too that look like mispellings but are really mis-seeing. It does keep me humble.....
Done.
blown_dry THANK YOU!
Hi! I'm wondering if there might be a way to "freeze" (so to speak) the title of the discussion at the top of the screen when you're at the most recent comment in a thread. The title of the forum remains when scrolling but I've found it cumbersome to scroll all the way to the beginning of our growing threads to try to remind my forgetful brain which discussion I'm in. And if I just need to be more organized and less forgetful, I can face that truth so please only consider this if it's a super easy adjustment.

Krista It's possible to sticky it at the top by tweaking the style sheet but I haven't delved into it at all to know where the style for the discussion header is actually located in it.
Doing so might eat up a lot of screen real estate on mobile but the height could be reduced, too, if the screen is mobile width...
Immediate Solutions
Desktop
- The discussion title appears in the title bar at the top of the browser window and on the browser tab.
- Mouse to the left of the screen and a sidebar will appear with a discussion list. The discussion you are in will be highlighted.
- If you'd like to keep it there, click the push pin icon and it will sticky it to the side. Handy for navigation, too.
Mobile
- The best I have is to tap reply to a post or discussion and the discussion title will be shown at the top of the reply window. You can then tap the X to leave the reply window.
There is another solution. Bear in mind, I have been reliably informed by @blown_dry that my ideas of forum nettiquette are more suited to technical forums with much higher numbers of users and may be at odds with the culture of this particular forum. I'll hide it here so as not to shock the faint of heart: The real solution is to start new discussions for new topics in the appropriate forum, so as to mitigate the number of uber long discussions.
mr_blown_dry Thank you very much, I appreciate all of these alternatives! They were very helpful and some I hadn't discovered yet, thank you. Also, encouragement to open new discussions was needed - I have been hesitant to open new ones until now. Thanks very much!
