edewitt It's apparently called... "Torch Aloe". That was an underhand-pitched softball of a search if I ever had one.
Krista blown_dry this is beautiful, and prolific! And I love that it’s blooming in February. Delightful!
calico20hill Amaryllis used to be what got me through the winter once the dahlias were put away. Now the price is so high I can only look at photos. We used to get them for under $10 each. I usually got them by the 3's. It takes at least 3 years to raise a new one from seed. About that time I got bit by the desire to start a cut flower business with dahlias.....I never did get a seedling to bloom stage.... I think one year my Greenhouse froze in a surprise storm when my husband was somewhere else around the world for business and I did not know how to operate the gas heater, or maybe we were out of propane and I couldn't get to town. I still have 3 or 4 bulbs that regenerate themselves and rebloom for me. ..but not bery pretty colors.
calico20hill Darce Oh, this is excellent news! It will take a few years but imagine driving down that driveway with peonies and lilacs in bloom!
blown_dry Hardy annual update. Now with snow. Dec 16 Feb 23 Probably a couple of months still for flowers. 😊
blown_dry Juliarugula The ferny ones are Eschscholzia lobbii a type of CA poppy and the ones with the little round leaves are Clarkia concinna
Juliarugula blown_dry Beautiful! Not commonly grown in Indiana. Every time I visit the west coast I’m fascinated by the difference in flora. It’s really interesting how moving west of the Rockies makes such a big difference. Same with bird species…
Darce I sowed seeds of this double poppy in the snow today I love the color and how ridiculously poufy it is (annual) POPPY ’FROSTED SALMON’
Krista Darce Oh gorgeous! It looks like fluffy pink petticoats, these are going to be gorgeous come spring!
Darce AndreaB Yes! I got it from select seeds - the name is frosted salmon - I have grown it for a couple of years- the blooms are just fantastic https://www.selectseeds.com/annuals/poppy-seeds-plants/peony_poppy_frosted_salmon_seeds.aspx
AndreaB Darce Gorgeous color! I think I ordered a packet of pink ones. New to me this year, so fingers crossed.
blown_dry Here is my 'vintage' aloe. It's also taking the cold weather and wet in stride, but those teeth are not just for show. :/ And my haul from Annie's. I'm so excited. I haven't been well enough to go there in literal years.
Darce blown_dry Oh I get the Annie’s catalog and it is my favourite to browse in the winter months - you got a great collection- I am super envious- it is pricey shipping to the east coast but I am always tempted by the catalog That aloe’s teeth are no joke!
Flowernut blown_dry I love Annie's. I would order from them when they had their summer sale and claim it was my birthday present to myself.😉 I'm in a different planting zone now, so I shop at local nursery's. Beautiful haul, Amanda!
calico20hill I buy from both Annie's and Bluestone. There are wonderful nurseries around Portland but my husband does NOT love nursery shopping and I don't drive in the city. So being able to order on line is worth the postage for me. My goal this year is to actually get the perennial border I was ordering for last season planted . This will be my first real planting into the heavy clay and its been a journey learning about it and fitting the work in between days of scorching sun and days of creek flooding and cold rain. Lots of moles and voles here too so taking time out to make bulb cages for the lilies, etc delayed planting last year.
