Amaryllis used to be what got me through the winter once the dahlias were put away. Now the price is so high I can only look at photos. We used to get them for under $10 each. I usually got them by the 3's. It takes at least 3 years to raise a new one from seed. About that time I got bit by
the desire to start a cut flower business with dahlias.....I never did get a seedling to bloom stage....
I think one year my Greenhouse froze in a surprise storm when my husband was somewhere else around the world for business and I did not know how to operate the gas heater, or maybe we were out of propane and I couldn't get to town. I still have 3 or 4 bulbs that regenerate themselves and rebloom for me. ..but not bery pretty colors.
