Juliarugula You have some beauties growing, who doesn’t love glads! This is the first of mine to bloom - hoping the fancier varieties follow. I haven’t watered this bed once this year and had thought to rip them out and replace with dahlias. But I couldn’t do it when I saw them begin to come up!

It was a beautiful and clear morning for a stroll. High of 80 today and no sign of haze from the Canadian wild fires. These are the days I would love to bottle!

calico20hill yes, it’s a Japanese Red Maple, planted in my Mom’s memory.
We have a few “memory trees” on our property, for loved ones that have passed on. Still working on what to plant for our 12-1/2 yr old pup we lost in March. A dogwood would be a natural choice, but we don’t have many understory places to plant one.

MissyWeitzel Spray with Febreeze ----we used to do that with limonium at the shop. Seems the better limonium looked, the worse it smelled !

Here is my little Firelight Hydrangea that I rescued from drowning in our clay bog a few months ago. It is now 4' tall, and will start turning to shades of pink and red before long. The fragrance is like honey and I could sit by this plant for a very long time just observing and enjoying it. SO glad it was saved! It makes a fabulous bouquet miexd with dahias and roses once the flowers are mature enough. Now we have moved and planted 3 other varieties of Panicle Hydrangeas in a grouping around our new Catio. The tallest will grow to 5' tall and wide and they vary in size down to Little Lime Punch that should stay around 3'.

Krista, you must run out and buy a Little Quickfire hydrangea right away so you can enjoy its fall color changes.! I am totally obsessed with the various forms of hydrangeas right now but particularly the paniculatas. They do well in th Seattle area but can grow quite large which is why I recommend LITTLE Quickfire. There are other small bush ones as well but there are also ones that grow 7 or 8 feet tall and wide so do pay attention to the finished size. It is so much fun to watch the white flowers turn to pink and then dark red before frost. As long as the roots don't sit in water in winter and they get water in summer they are pretty much trouble free. I fear I am obsessed with all of the hydrangea family and have just created a garden for them that has shade for the mopheads and afternoon sun for the paniculatas.
they are pretty easy to grow if the soil suits them. They can get pretty big so watch the projected size for each variety
They can scorch in the summer heat we are now getting, so I moved mine under the shade of an old Hawthorn tree. I have used shade cloth on them at tmes when they were growing in bright sun. THere are many types of hydrangeas ...another wonderful plant kingdom to explore! I am growing all the different types I can find. And now I have decided I need to add Fuchsias to that shady garden! I do love being obsessed!

calico20hill Ohhh! I’ve increasingly developed more and more interest in hydrangeas and this information is exactly what I need to get started, thank you! I’ll go on the hunt for a Little Quickfire and if not for this fall, hopefully have one to enjoy for next!

Our neighbor invited us over this evening for the blooming of their Epiphyllum oxypetalum. Each flower opens once, at night, then wilts by dawn. The smell is out of this world. They shared a few cuttings - hopefully they root!

KitCMC I grew this at one point, but my family didn't like it's wild growth habit, so it meet an untimely demise many, many years ago. My sister lives in town and grows a huge plant of Epiphyllum oxypetalum that didn't bloom this year. In past year's I've gone over their house at 9:30 pm to enjoy the spectacular blooms that live only a few hours. The flower is huge, fragrant, and just crazy beautiful.
