Does anyone grow Clearview Maize? Does it have red stems?

I have a mystery dahlia that’s popped up from a tuber that escaped last season and overwintered. (I actually had 3 of them this year, but I’ve figured out the other two). It has a huge bud on it and I'm anxiously awaiting the reveal. But I can’t remember what A, AA varieties I would have grown in that spot with red stems. These are quite bold red stems. I know Shiloh Noelle was in the area, but definitely not red stems on that one…. Maybe CV Maize, but photos I see online look pretty green to me.

I was surprised that most of the cut flower visitors to our garden on the 28th had not heard of Hollyhill Berry Purple. They said they were looking for a good purple cut flower and one said she liked Hollyhill Regal. I told her that Berry Purple was a much better cut flower and makes much better tubers.

Teddahlia cuttings are the only way I can keep Regal going. I still prefer Regal’s color vs. Berry Purple.

Teddahlia I'm growing it this year and like it a lot! It isn't listed in the ADS classification handbook or the online version. I took it to a show last week and if I have any that look nice Friday, I'll bring them to the Midwest Dahlia Conference Show. I'm doing my best to spread the word! 😉

HH Berry Purple has been a hard one to get ahold of for me. I think I got one from Steve M...must look and see if it is still out there in the garden.

I agree with hollyhill berry purple being a good cut. But I do not think many other sellers offer it? I believe I got a tuber from Lindsey at Chelan Butte 2 years ago. And yes the voles got it this year so looking to replace. If someone can have one that same form but in this color... would be nice.

(1) I have a seedling of HH Regal that is very nice and later on, I will post some pictures that will cause your computer monitor to blind you . No sense sharing all the seedling pictures right now. Hint: I may have already posted a picture of it here on this site.
(2) I talked to John Spangenberg of Crazy 4 Dahlias and they cancelled the show at Longwood Gardens due to criminal being on the loose. He is going to Pittsburg instead.

This path goes by the Coleus pots and then behind some hanging baskets and stops. The hummingbirds disagree.

The collarettes are next to the mignon singles and there are some orchets too. I put them just past the wild blackberry vines and the poison ivy.

I just won Best Miniature in Show with Hollyhill Ambiance at the Mid Island Dahlia Society Show on Long Island, NY. Plant was floriferous with bright, non-fading blooms.

Hollyhill Ambiance is 50% a British variety and it and it's pod sister Maisie make few if any seeds. Hard to breed with just a tiny drab of pollen.

This weekend I attended the Midwest Conference Dahlia Show in Pittsburgh. I messed up a bunch of my flowers the day before in a really foolish moment (I seem to have had many of those this year) so I didn't have many good blooms to take. I had a nice time in one of my favorite cities anyway and it was great hanging with Dahlia friends.

The venue was a huge bubble dome. It was massive and really hot inside with the lights, but there was a ton of room to spread out and prep entries.

The Greater Pittsburgh Dahlia Society had these really old beverage cones they use for staging blooms. I'm super into vintage branding and packaging so I was really excited about them! I planned on bringing some outside to get better pictures since the lighting inside was horrible, but so was my hotel bed and without much sleep I didn't have energy to do much aside from my clerking duties on day 2. 😅

MissyWeitzel what are the wedges sticking out of the top? Did they allow mechanics in lieu of floral foam?

Juliarugula yes, barely any foam to be found anywhere, which was great! We use the wooden wedges at our show a lot too - you can use them to angle/position the stem even if they're in foam. They're particularly helpful in staging entries with multiple blooms to help get the facing of the blooms more symmetrical and spacing more consistent.

Here I was using two to hold thinner stems in place so I didn't need foam. In the cones it worked a lot better to have a thicker stem and just one wedge, but I liked the cones so much I tried to put all my entries in them. 😊
