Teddahlia What I like about MM Buttercream when I usually am not a fan of white flowers is that it looked almost green-yellow to me. Pictures of it don't quite capture it, but when I saw it in person I thought the color was a bit unique.

blown_dry I know exactly what you are talking about - those cool, lemony, almost greenish light or pale yellows or creams really appeal to me! Is MM Buttercream also extinct now? I hope not; it is now on my seek and find list, based on your picture.

Here is my photo of MM Buttercream. It was a very very cool lemon yellow sometimes. I could maybe see what you're saying.

The variety Creamy sold by Ginger Clack was originated by an obscure defunct dahlia operation in Eastern Oregon. I believe it was located in the thriving metropolis of Heppner, a nice small town not on the way to anywhere. It's only claim to fame was the thunderstorm caused flood that killed 247 people in 1903. I can get a bit off subject.

Jan Jones, of Jan's Country Garden, has Alzheimer's. It is so sad to see her declining so rapidly. She lives about 10 minutes from me and we have been friends for 30+ years. Interestingly, we share a birthday, 20 years apart. I used to help her dig and divide in the fall and plant in the spring. The last year she grew dahlias was the year she broke her back and she left all the plants in the ground over winter and most of them did not make it. Her gardens were gorgeous. She grew over 500 different dahlia varieties. One of her care-givers now grows a hundred or so plants that I gave back to them a couple of years ago. Jan no longer remembers any of the variety names, but her eyes light up when she see the blossoms and she says they are all beautiful.

katyaker How beautiful that when all else goes she can still enjoy dahlias!

katyaker Sad to hear about her health issues. I always enjoyed my communications with Jan. She was one of the first dahlia suppliers I ordered from when I first became interested in dahlias.

katyaker So sorry to read this - didn't know her but her dahlia website was a hoot - so much fun for the kid in us all. I'm glad she still lights up at seeing all the beautiful dahlias.

katyaker That is so unfortunate to hear. I am sorry you are having to witness your friend going through that. it is never easy. I stumbled across this comment because I was on the hunt for Keewatin Pioneer and Jan's was listed as the ONLY place that had it. I'm sorry I never got to see her gardens in person because I visit the Sequim area a couple of times a year; I just started to get into the Dahlia world before the pandemic in 2020 and only dove back in this spring once I moved into a place with a big backyard.

Anyone have a source for RJR or know where/who could buy it from? I had checked the Dahlia Addict suppliers but didn’t find any available to purchase. Was hoping to use it in my dahlia breeding project this yr but maybe I missed it for this yr as it doesn’t seem to be a real common one for sale.

BackyardBouquets_17 I got RJR from Dreamland last year but the tubers are just eyeing up now so not sure how many I'll end up with if you are still looking for it in May....

RJR was one of the Boley's "Secret weapons". It is the parent of many of their introductions . We grew it for a couple of years but it did not like us as well as it liked the Boleys.

I remember hearing about RJR a longggg time ago and that it was a good one for breeding. I got some seeds from it last year so we’ll see how it does.

BackyardBouquets_17 I only got two tubers that eyed up of RJR. If you remind me next year I’ll send you one since I have two plants of it this year. Sorry.
