A few hard frosts lately, but spring is taking hold for sure.

Had 8 inches of rain the last 2 days a very large pine tree fell from across the creek and collapsed 1 of my 10yr old peach trees. Also had a 2nd tree fall into where I plant my dahlias, thankfully nothing is planted there lots of clean up now. I will likely try to plant out my tubers May 1 - 7 depending on if no rain is in the forecast.

Will be in the mid 70 - 80s and 55 low rest of the week.

It was a picture perfect spring day here in Virginia. The forecast is dry, with temps in the sixties, warming up to low eighties by end of week. Last year I planted late April/ early May, with a second batch early in June. It’s tempting to try it earlier! I’ll just make sure to get the irrigation set up. Who knows what we’ll face this season!

NCDahlia About the same here (not far from you). We had 3 days of it here, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover how much it had soaked in. Perfect for fast weed pulling on Sunday. One out of thirteen rows done.... only one. But at least it's one!😝I am still kicking myself for having been talked into using soil that was washed from local sweet potato cultivation. The weed seed didn't wash out, and I had weeds I've never seen before that grew to five feet tall last year while I was bedridden with Long Covid. It's probably going to take all of this season to really have it fully under control and a thing of the past.

I think we have been a bit warmer down here in Oregon but not much.

It’s 91 degrees here in upstate NY - a record I think - me and the pups are very wilted- I hope this doesn’t heat blast the daffodils to a crisp
I am not ready for this at all 🥵and in 2 days it’s back to normal 60s temps - what the heck?!

Darce same here in SW MI. It's supposed to be 83 tomorrow and 41 on Monday.
My tulips are growing in super fast with all the warm weather. Last week they were 3-4 inches tall. Every year I buy $30-40 of clearance tulips just to use as cut flowers for myself and Tulipalooza is coming fast!

Yes, this week it’s been up to 87 most days. I feel a bit cheated out of my daffodils - most of the ones in full sun are pretty much done. I think we’re past the worst of it now though, especially if my tulips can make it through today (high of 80) without blasting.

Tomorrow night it’s supposed to snow. 🙄

OH ick! I hate days like that when the temperature swings so crazy into uncomfortable heat. Here it seems like it is never going ot get warm and sunny, but as I say that, I have been working out in the garden and its quite comfy for flannel shirts and jeans so that is about right. Its kind of hazy but the temp is 51 degrees so excellent temps for garden clean up.

Ha I do too! When everything goes on clearance in November I put them in my raised beds I use for tomatoes etc - for the LIFE of me I cannot get tulips to grow in pots - they always rot or wither or something- when I shove them in the tomatoes/veg raised beds they do great

calico20hill I am in the same boat - the squirrel digging wipes everything out! I've found that bird netting successfully prevents both the squirrels and the birds from my raised beds. Pots are unfortunately on their own. Thankfully, my lilies withstand the voracious digging as they tolerate such deep planting. I'm not sure which is worse, combatting against perils from above or below? I imagine if/when we can move to a larger space of land, I'll be combatting voles, etc. too!

Juliarugula we have the snow forecast as well. I wish we hadn’t had that weird warm up instead of typical spring temps. Everything here went from sticks to leafed out in about 4 days.

And out here on the West Coast it is "rain showers, snow showers and a chance of small hail". Normally I would be planting annual summer flowers by now and my pots of dahlias would be hardening off outside, This time I can't even get between house and greenhouse without a coat and rain hat! I'm getting quite familiar with the sound of that "small hail" rattling down on the greenhouse roof. We haven't even had a "weird warm up" for solace....

Oh dear! Looking at a garden catastrphe! I have mentioned our heavy clay soil. I have also talked about my love for the hydrangea garden I have planted on a slope. NOw you would think that a slope would be well drained. I am afraid my long slope just drains down into my hydrangea garden. And yes, Hydrangeas in mucky soil get root rot that is fatal. I have already lost my first ones to root rot, so we have built a couple of raised beds and planted new ones.(Limelight and Pinky Winky) I had about 15 different ones planted here. The ones that can not tolerate hot summer sun were slated to be moved but I was replanting with the paniculatas that tolerate sun and put on a wonderful autumn display of changing colors. Its going to be an emergency effort to save them, and the only (sorta) ablebodied adult here has 3 medical appts away from home today. 5 years ago I could have dug them myself but I can't do that now. Oh for a good strong teenager! It does not LOOK like water would collect in this spot. One wonders what previous owners have done under the sod there. We did find a drainage ditch farther up. Maybe we have a broken one above my garden?

calico20hill sorry to hear about your hydrangeas getting water logged. Hydrangeas make cuttings pretty easily! If you can't save the plant, perhaps you can save the genetic material by making new plants.

Bessie, I do know how to take cuttings of the Macrophyla but the paniculatas are a whole different type . I will do some research as this is definitely a good idea. I know there must be a way considering how many are on the market. Thanks for the rAY OF HOPE. And it is STILL pouring down rain out there! Cold rain for it being the middle of April!
