Best laid plans.......Non dug today but we got a whole lot of bulbs planted into my hydrangea garden! Husband offered to help by using the bulb drills in the clay so we were able to get the spaces filled with the spring bulbs...I hope the squirrels don't like digging in clay....Also harvested the winter squash today. What a treat to have a whole wheelbarrow load of various winter squashes!
And the dahlias did not get cut down because I had a lovely guest today, a young lady from this area who wanted to talk to someone who grew dahlias. It turns out that there has been a good Farmer's Market this summer in a near by town and I did not even know it, and she has been selling both veggies and flowers. She brought me a beautiful bouquet of Bloomquist dahlias...such fun to sit here and admire dahlias grown by someone else and varieties I did not have! I think we will be doing a lot of trading :-)
So, maybe tomorrow I can cut down some dahlias? It is time and I see that a week from now the temps at night will be getting down to toward freezing...this is the schedule I remember up until the least few years! We usually had a freeze up around Halloween.
