KitCMC I've gotten some every year. I expect it's insurance for ppl shipping from cold climates. It's also possible that I just happen to be a long time customer of suppliers that use it and it is very rare. 🙂

KitCMC one of the early shippers, BJ’s maybe?, uses it every year, I suspect to keep the tubers warm.

AKWindWatcher anyone remember when I thought I got 6 bonus tubers from Swan Island? One order from them, but I obviously had completely forgotten what I ordered, and didn't notice the second page of the shipping paperwork, listing what I incorrectly identified as "bonuses".

Bessie if it makes you feel any better, for a few exciting hours this week I thought I received two KA's Keltie Cherry as bonus tubers on a small order I placed. I later discovered the second invoice and the actual bonus tuber.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised this year at how few cancellations I’ve gotten! Only two tubers cancelled so far and I’ve received just about everything.

I think last year I had at least five cancelled, out of what was probably half as many tubers ordered.

I got my order from Bulldog Dahlias and they have info listed on the invoice for all the tubers and heights. All of the heights listed were 5' except for Hollyhill Finlandia which was listed as 12'. I'll be interested to see how that turns out. 😁

Our Finlandia is generally only 9-10 feet tall.

Teddahlia I've never had anything above 8' tall and that was only because it was growing in the shade. The only other plant I've had quite tall aside from Holly Huston was HH Dungeness and that only got about 7-7.5' tall. I generally don't top off the plants either so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong?

edewitt For what it's worth, my tallest plants don't top 6 ft. But I don't mind, I like big blooms, but at my eye level where I can see them.

KitCMC My orders from River's always used to come packed in Tyvek house insulation, scraps from Eugene Kenyon's construction business. This time it was cedar shavings, though. Slowdown in house construction?

PNWGal seems like Rivers really increased sales this year (although I could be wrong…). My guess is they ran out of scraps. Or maybe it’s that building material costs have gone up so much (not that track Tyvek specifically, but in general seems to be true).

My rivers order was wood chips also.

PNWGal at least they stay warm, something I am always worried about in my cold climate. Maybe we should start an unexpected packing materials thread. Winner each year gets a free tuber 😆
