I feel like I am in a different head space then in past years when it comes to acquiring all the wonderful new ones or older ones that the next generation is obsessing over. Perhaps it comes from having very limited space but it is also the fact that I am no longer taking blooms to market. FOr me,half the fun was watching peoples reactions to the particular bloom and the other half was seeing them go wild about a bouquet I had made (And actually buying it.)Since I don't show dahlias, I also do not have that as a criteria. Gradually I am becoming more interested in what new dahlia I can create out of the genetics in what I have. I think this is just another step in the ladder of dahlia zen. THere are just so many different ways to love a dahlia! But part of the joy comes in the learning, too. With people, the more we learn about them either the more or the less we like them.If it is a dahlia, we can change our focus a little and enjoy it in a new way.. But also, don't discount the joy of craving a particular flower in your garden and obtaining it! It is very real! And it is all part of our learning process. I think if we stop enjoying the learning process it is like a spark that dies and the fire dims.
