  • 2024 - Dahlia Blooms

A ghost spider in Aurora's Kiss in advance of Halloween.

Mary P, Mary P, how I enjoy your red picotee.

Hapet Neon Sea doesn't blow me away. It's nice.

Wyn's Mardi Gras is very short. Needs more beads.

Spider picture is appropriate for October and Halloween.

River's Here Kitty Kitty
My first giraffe type dahlia, kinda neat!

Emilyp Whoa- I did the copy paste thing you guys were talking about a few days ago, but it only pasted the flower, not the whole picture 😅

Emilyp weird! I thought that was on purpose!

I really wanted to try Here Kitty Kitty but missed out at the sales! Maybe next year!

I bet it will be really hard to get the ones we want from RIver's because they are so awesome in what they are breeding. I would be up for some trading within our group here once I dig and know what I have. I have really been enjoying the ones I do have...River's Coal Mine is wonderful. I also have a lot of seedlings from River's Cherry Bomb, and some of the other small ones that have not bloomed this year, I will try to hold them over and plant them again next year in a sunnier part of my garden.

Emilyp I also thought it was on purpose — your photo turned out great! I planted this one this year too but I only caught one bloom after it was at its prime so seeing yours is very exciting.

        calico20hill I’m in too!

Brian's Dream is a secret weapon in the shows. It is an incredible show flower that few people show. Grown correctly, it has won best in show.

Oh so nicely grown! And you have the nice really dark back side color!

Posted this picture to Facebook: Teresa Bergman's Hapet Pearl. Cell phone set to portrait mode. Easy to do and sometimes really works well.

CDP Liam is a new one from the Clacks and it won best ball dahlia at the Portland show.

I shared these photos on Instagram of Prairie Home Judith Ann, a named but unregistered dahlia which was released last year. I really like the peach back petals, but they only appeared on one bloom. The rest were white and tricolor as the second photo shows. I don't know how many years this was grown as a seedling so I hope it will show more peach next year.

        Bloomquist Blush

We've had light frosts the past 2 nights and I think a hard freeze is coming Monday. I have about 5 stragglers I'm waiting for first blooms on, including a big ol' Formby Kaitlin bud. I'm definitely going to try to save that one!

Hapet Cupid was really pretty. This was my first year growing it. I love Sandia Tiger. Ferncliff Apricot is nice. Country Sweetheart for a paler orange. BQ Pleasing…

calico20hill I have not seen a bloom on Montana Centennial this year. I better check and see if the plant looks healthy...or even still exists. I know I did save some seeds and planted them out but I don't think I have seen any blooms yet. I enjoyed it last year.

I think we were talking about reddish orange "Mexican Sunflower" colored dahlias, and by chance Ryecroft Huntsman bloomed for the first time. Yep on October 10th.
