Does anybody have info on Ferncliff Gardens opening? Seems like they often open September 1, but I haven’t heard anything about an opening date yet this yea...

I've missed out on getting Hollyhill Big Pink for a few years now so was happy to pick it up at the Old House opening.

It was surprising to see Hollyhill Big Pink available at Old House. It has become elusive recently. One of my favorite blooms.

Without pre-planning, I popped Hollyhill Contessa into my cart; it was Old House’s description that made it irresistible.

Beautiful icy white blooms with raspberry tips.

At 2.5’ tall, maybe I’ll tuck it in at the end of a narrow row or into a cut flowerer bed and just find out what happens in my garden.

I think they meant a lottery such as what they did with concerts back in the day. ohhhhh boy, did I hate those days. We would line up at Harmony House to buy concert tickets, everyone was given a wrist band, a number would be drawn and that was the first person in line to buy tickets.

bloomhjelm Why does Old House need Shopify? I didn't shop there this year, but have a few different years. I don't recall not liking his platform. I don't think everyone has a quick check out shopify account, so maybe it levels the playing field some.....?

MIDahlias I think because Shopify is the web host with the lowest likelihood of server crashing issues.

I totally missed the meaning of lottery in Robin's post! But I stand by that we need some kind of low barrier to entry "dahlia eBay."

blown_dry That is my Daughter in laws name & spelling so she has been on my unicorn list for years 😍 I did get one before but with our horrible heatwave never saw her bloom so got a couple more today just to be sure & I got a blown dry too 🤣

bloomhjelm scrolling this morning and I see there we're issues on the Old House site yesterday. 🙁 I'm assuming they had more than usual traffic due to a few fb posts about them opening.

I stuggled through computer issues with Old House and finally got my half dozen...only one of the ones I wanted a lot was sold out. One of the Hollyhills but I forget which right now. I think my issues were all when it came time to pay and finding my way through the system. I Just want to walk up to a check stand with cash in hand and no drama when it comes time to pay, sigh...I know that doesn't work any more, but I hate the anxiety while I see what I am going to end up with.

calico20hill same - I only lost one, which surprised me because I really struggled to checkout. I was at the Elkhart Dahlia Society meeting when the store opened, and there just isn’t very good cell service at that location. Most of the time, I couldn’t even get any pages to load. When I got home hours later I tried on WI-FI and was able to get through checkout very slowly. I missed Hollyhill Court Jester, but was able to buy Contessa and Electra.

MIDahlias Here I thought it was issues with MY computer.....But I did get an order in a bit later...I've been buying from this farm since before they moved out to Tillamook....I always get my older Hollyhills from them...

Yes, the site crashed, and it had also crashed last year. I am not too worried for the buyers, who are generally understanding, but I suspect may have caused overselling for Old House because of the delays specifically in the checkout.

HH Court Jester was nearly extinct for many years and Margaret would pester me about it every year and none was available. We lost it a couple of years after it was introduced. There are three flowers that are basically red with white blazes on them: (1) HH Joker's Wild, the first one and the parent of the other two. (2)HH Jester, my favorite as it is a good cut flower and that is because many or most of the flowers are solid red and very nice, (3)HH Court Jester Margaret's favorite and you would have to ask her why as it never impressed me. Currently, we only have Court Jester although there be a couple of tubers of Jokers Wild. I am going to trade for Jester as that person lost his Court Jester.

Same experience for me. The initial website overload caused me to abandon the site, only to return a few hours later and find my selections still available and easy to navigate.

I didn't shop Old House a few days ago, but this morning someone posted that they had Giraffe tuber clumps available and I was able to snag one very quickly!

Arobin673 OH cool! I wanted to get a tuber but I think the single tubers were marked as sold out before i got there... When I was just starting my dahlia breeding journey I was in the same dahlia club with Les Connell, I had a seedling that showed similar striping to Giraffe, and he was quite interested in it but I think it did not make it to the next year. Ever since then I have had my eye out for a Giraffe for my garden.

I was able to get some things from the Cowlitz sale. Most looking forward to Hapet Nicoletta and Allen's Bella. Also Allen's Goldeneye, Explosion and Klondike and Willie Aramis which are all shades of yellow or gold, and HH Shaggy Dog.

blown_dry Oooh, nice acquisitions! I always love seeing what Teresa has in her sales at Cowlitz River Dahlias. It was so hard for me to not get Allen’s Showcase & Allen’s Bella! I have had to be very stern with myself to not purchase any that aren’t for one of my specific hybridizing goals this year, as I’m already having to say goodbye to some varieties I love, to make room for seedlings. But I love seeing other people acquiring them & planning to grow them. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures or seeing them at shows! I hope they are magnificent for you this year!

I went straight for Willie Aramis and new Allen's as well. Now would like Aggie White to round out my big fluffies.

KitCMC Yeah I wish I'd grabbed this one. Mistakes were made, but I did get a few of the new ones. I am super into gold right now and very excited to see how Klondike works out.

I was also psyched to buy the pot tubers! I intend to experiment more with pot tubers this summer so am keenly interested. If I had the choice to buy a pot tuber vs a little single tuber it seems a no brainer to me and honestly I was surprised the pot tubers were priced similarly to the single tubers.
