Does anybody have info on Ferncliff Gardens opening? Seems like they often open September 1, but I haven’t heard anything about an opening date yet this yea...

Juliarugula That happens with a cc too when a website doesn't auto remove. That did happen to me on this mornings sale. I think I had to reenter my address and cc too. Its stored on my computer, so I didn't have to type.

Another East Coast Crazy4Dahlia shopper here. My family is even more convinced now that I'm insane. Having to solve a riddle to find out one needs to get up at 3:20 am to buy dahlia tubers online! Who does that? Apparently, hundreds of others. I was on time, focused and very fast but still lost every HH waterlily tuber that I wanted while waiting for the website to send me through to PayPal. At least, I was still able to get DS Doris and a couple others. 😍
After the adrenaline rush, at 3:40 am I was texting with a friend who's equally afflicted and also lost out on the tubers she wanted most. This is truly not normal behavior anymore.- Yet, here I am hoping the riddle will be harder next year. 😜

Ailhad He did say that he might need to make it harder. I liked last year where he just intimated that it would be "early" without giving any exact time.

Ailhad Have you seen DS Doris in person? Photos don’t do it justice, such a stunning flower! Idk if dark reds fade the same way reds do but this flower had zero fade with an entire month of 90 degree weather.

That's nothing. My sale launches next year. Next year everyone will receive a cryptex. When you solve it you will find a map inside. The map leads to a cache location in New Mexico. The cache contains a radio frequency. The radio station broadcasts a message in Navajo code talk. The message contains website launch time and password. Then and only then, will you be able to purchase a rare unreleased waterlily for $75.

Well, I guess it is back to collecting seeds and growing my own because there is no way I am making it through those gates to the sales....but just maybe I can trade a rooted cutting later with a friend? Hurray for dahlia friends who take care of each other :-)

Noni needs to pursue trading as she has lots of good trading material. No sense buying a dahlia when you can trade.

Teddahlia Going through my tubers right now to see who the survivors of Early Tuber Death Dahlia Syndrome are...Then I will be able to organize on paper what I have and what I need to keep. I suspect I have more then are going to fit in the 6 raised beds and row of grow bags.... and then there has to be room for the new seedlings. Math never was my strongest subject in school. When Are they going to start teaching something useful like Dahlia Math?

Are your raised beds all the same dimensions? I’m sure that would help somewhat with the dahlia math…which I need a lesson in as well. I will tell myself I will space them 1 foot apart…then run out of space and say let’s see what happens with 10 inches apart 😅 and then I will move on to the grow bags

MIDahlias When I had Hollyhill minuet drop out, I went back and grabbed Barbary Jester.

I remember last year I woke up at 6 am and the sale had already started. The only 1969 song I knew off the top of my head was Gimme Shelter by the rolling stones. So thought the time was the track song length of of 4:37 🤣😂 then just stayed up all night just to be sure.

This year is a win for me. I got all 3 of the 2023 hollyhill WL for the first time so really excited to grow them.

NCDahlia Barberry Jester looks gorgeous! I was so bummed. I didn’t set my alarm because I and two other growers stayed up dividing and talking on zoom until just before the sale. I’m also doing the Floret workshop. I had about 9 minutes before the sale opened, so I started reading some of the introductions of other people doing the course. All of a sudden I look up and it was 4 minutes AFTER opening time. I was super annoyed with myself because I had been about Minuet, the two new waterlilies, and 20th Ave Pink Cloud. Total fail. 😂 The ADHD tax got paid again. Super happy for you. Grow with joy!!

I tried and tried to understand the riddle, once I knew the answer, I tried to understand it. I read this five times over and now I get it.
