Bessie I think putting them in this thread is fine. It's not like they will get lost in a tidal wave of daily posts, and it keeps the forum dahlia focused.

Krista It's a perk living at an elevation of 6500ft. but I do miss the sunsets between Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier when I lived in Yakima oh so long ago. It was pretty rare for remarkable sunsets when i lived in Boise.

edewitt Oh incredible - since Seattle’s at 0 elevation practically, my partner and I get excited when we can find something to hike that will deliver us to 6500ft! And Yakima is a place we are very heavily considering for a move one day unless you have suggestions against it.

A flower grower pal and I took a floral arranging class at a florist shop this morning. After getting dumped on with a bunch more snow yesterday, this was such a mood booster! (Plus the sub-par quality of some of the flowers made us feel really good about ours!)

NCDahlia Yes, Solidago. The florist told us it was bred specifically to not bother people with allergies like goldenrod does. Honestly it looks exactly like what grows in the wild part of our yard though.

Oh it snowed a bit here too last night - it melted but it’s mushy and damp and your pretty greens and acid yellows make me feel so happy! What a beautiful arrangement - I have never been able to grow bells of Ireland successfully but I want to cause I love the way they look in the vase😍

I know - I have tried and failed to grow them soooo many times! I wish I knew the trick - I always hear people say they’re super easy.

I know right?! I have grown lots of challenging things from seed but there are a few ‘super easy’ ones that I can’t get going no matter what - grrrr! It is like sure you can make a delicious soufflé but your nestle tollhouse chocolate chip cookies are a disaster zone 🤣

I googled the Bells of Ireland out of curiousity. I guess you can't cover the seed, it needs light to germinate and further it can't stand to have its roots disturbed so must be planted in something that will biodegrade. Seems a bit demanding. 🙂 I expect in the right environment, it reseeds itself readily. In fact one place said that transplanted stock will not reach the same size as self-seeded.

blown_dry it also needs to be cold stratified and it is thorny! I tried growing it once but it's a cool flower and I planted it 3 months after I should have so it fizzled out before blooming.
These days I read up a little more before trying to grow new things. 😅

Totally new topic. Just wanted to say, Mr Islander and I are celebrating out 56th wedding anniversary today. Now that is a lot of water under the bridge, LOL. We were 22 when we got married and he was about to get called up to go to Viet Nam.

Its a stormy ugly day, he can't eat most restaurant food, and he can't hear when he is eating. Forget the lovely dinner out...I gave him the money to buy wood for the foundation of the catio he is building for our 2 cute kitties. He hasn't figured out what I would like yet, LOL. (It would be a nice bench to sit in front of the catio and watch the kits play.)
