I've managed to purchase a whopping 11 tubers total from three vendors so far. This is the most restraint I've used in forever. Meadowpoint got some of my money this evening.

I’m excited that I was able to get the single tuber they had in stock of Mingus Harry L! It looks like a crazy one - can’t wait to try it! I also got Hollyhill Lawrence, which I consider every time I see it offered.

HH Lawrence is a workhorse dahlia that makes tubers and is easy to grow. It exists because a cut flower seller declared it to be one of his favorite cut flowers and also one selected by customers who cruised his show garden. It's colors are more popular than ever. It is a pod mate of a winning show dahlia that is more difficult to grow. It is the " $20-" dahlia as a porcelain painter friend of Margaret pressed a $20- bill into her hand and said would you name flower after my father, Lawrence. How do you say no?

Isn't' Lawrence related to Hollyhill Margarita? I thought they were pod mates or sister/brother dahlias. Vaguely remember that.

I got another dahlia order in today. So far my wife has gotten 2 of the boxes but I've smuggled in 4 🤣 Think I only have 2-3 more orders Cowlitz and Dahlia Julie. Might do a KA but not this week.

Isn't' Lawrence related to Hollyhill Margarita? Only 25% related but 50% related to HH Cotton Candy. HH Augustina was the pod mate of Lawrence. Augustina was a big winner in shows for awhile. Lawrence is much easier to grow and is more suitable for cut flowers and being a garden flower. I like the category of garden flower as that means it looks good in the garden and many dahlias look like shit in the garden.

I meant to make the Stonehouse sale, but I got distracted. It wouldn't be so bad at all, except what I was doing was even less productive than ordering more dahlias and that bar is so low. At least there are many more opportunities.

Kale Lane had a lovely cutting selection, but I just went there and there was only one listing. Did they have a cutting sale?

blown_dry I’m on their mailing list, and I don’t remember getting notified of a cutting sale.

I'm beginning to think this is the worst April Fool's Day joke by Creeekside. 😉

EDIT: Looks like it's up and running now. I was gonna buy a few, then much like this morning with Kale Lane's sale I ended up not buying anything.

I have an impression of sales this year that there is much more "spearfishing" going on. I feel like varieties which would have sold relatively quickly last year are hanging around in shops longer as people quickly buy up coveted varieties and that is all. I've seen so many coupon codes going out this weekend and today as people want to liquidate and close out. And many still have some pretty good flowers.

I also think the buying started earlier this year, so sellers opening their shops in April are at a disadvantage for selling anything but the rarest varieties.

I have no evidence for this but would be interested in thoughts.

bloomhjelm I agree that the buying has been softening. I have a few varieties I'm looking for, but I refuse to order just two varieties and pay the shipping. I am swimming in tubers and seedlings that need a spot in the ground, so there's motive to not purchase any more.

Got my Connell's order today along with 7 lovely perennial plants for my woodland garden from Bluestone I love days like this, especially when it is almost 70 degrees out. !

I think it could be easing up. It used to be everyone opened in fall and spring was rare, but that has shifted significantly. My theory is that as more non-specialists get into the market they wisely opt to wait and see what survived storage before opening. I keep wondering when supply will finally meet demand and we will see prices stabilize or fall. Perennial question. 🙂 I feel satiated personally, I haven't purchased an additional dahlia in... (checks) 7 days now. 😑 But it was just the one and I was adding to a pre-existing order.
