Thanks to the dry and Unseasonably warm weather, I took a road trip today. Hung out with some beautiful dahlia people, broke bread together and picked up 15 tubers. This means I'm over my limit for this year. No more shopping unless it's for 2025.

While I don't need a photo to make a purchase, a bad photo (showing bad bloom characteristics) is a total disqualifier. The thought being that if the originator cannot produce a photo showing an exhibition-worthy bloom ( I grow for show), why should I roll the dice with the costly new introduction. Photos help, but only good photos. And please do not "touch-up" photos or distort the actual color of the bloom!

My top "deal breakers" for dahlia tuber listing photos:

Photo of it with open center and no explanation
Increased brightness or saturation or altered tint
Using Dutch importer photos or any borrowed photos without explanation
Extreme close-up photos with no alternate photos
Photos of non-typical color for that cultivar without explanation
Curly leaves on the plant in photos

Other than that I am really very liberal with my purchases from new sellers.

When I load inventory I occasionally have questions for suppliers. Sometimes the question is because of the photo. I find myself thinking that a catalog with no photos would have avoided my attention to the matter entirely. Obviously the same with customers. That said, I think the ratio of listings with photos to listings without also has an effect. In a real sense, a supplier's listings are competing with one another. If the catalog has no images or few images, I think a listing with no image (and that is not a unicorn) will sell much more quickly than in a catalog where they are only listing with no image.
For myself, I am rather indescriminate, as we have seen by my purchasing that new release with the awful photo. I guess dahlias are an exception to my disinterest in gambling. On the other hand, my odds of liking it are better than planting seeds.

I got the email that I bid too low for Coseytown's hybridizer mix seeds. Alas. Instead will throw a very high volume of less prestigious seeds into the dirt.

Glad Heaven on Earth and Meadowpoint have announced sales after all. March is going to be the best month yet except for my wallet.

My dahlia shopping is over for 2024. Thrilled to get 3 of the AC's from Teressa. I will try for the HH WL's next year lol John Crazy4 did say he opened early when he sent me my email confirms.

Can not wait to actually have some flowers again next year all new ones are going in i1 gallon sunk pots w/ mesh on the bottom hole for no voles

I was hoping Dill and dahlia would fly under the radar , but no such luck. Maybe next peachy parade. (I really am out of space anyway)

I was sad that Belle of the Ball fell out of the catalog. I thought I got it at Sungates, but I think I got too excited and forgot to finish checking out, because my order didn’t go through. 🤪. Definitely kicking myself for that one! Apparently it’s getting moved to next year’s wishlist.
