Has anyone heard when JS is opening?

I've never ordered from them. I believe (and I might be wrong) that during the January 2023 society meeting someone said they had already opened and closed. If that's the case, I would assume soon if they haven't already started to take orders.

He does sort of old school ordering, where you mail in a check. I don’t think he tends to announce a date ahead of time (doesn’t tend to be online much).

AKWindWatcher JS doesn't announce in any place I have ever had access to. But I'm fairly certain he hasn't opened yet. Even if he was only open for an hour, the change in offerings would get flagged on my monitor. I look forward to that one every year.

Jerry Schoenhauer is the owner of JS Dahlias and he grows a limited number of plants and sells some tubers. I still grow his JS Jenny that is related to Spartacus and is a sport of a sport of a sport or some such thing. It looks like the Spartacus sport called Steve Meggos but seems to be a lot healthier. Last year there was some talk how he was overwhelmed with orders.

Barnstar florals just opened. I haven’t ordered from them before but they have some nice ones. (Sadly not Jane Cowl, which I had seen in one of their posts)

Anyone know when and if Big Dahlias (Cale Burr) will open. It failed to open in December as advertised.

Never seen it in person. 1928 was a long time ago. Named after a stage actress and the article says she picked it out from some other seedlings. I also like the comment that she had : “marvelous bovine eyes ” .

Of the 4-5 sales I was aware of this morning I only purchased from one (Old Barn blooms) which felt like good restraint for me. Avoca Amanda was hard to resist.

bloomhjelm I grew Avoca Amanda last year. It was a late bloomer for me, but gorgeous and worth it.

That is gorgeous, thank you for sharing! I would be delighted if it blooms like that here. I saw it on one of the garden/farm tours this summer and thought it was so fun!

But truthfully, I was really hoping to get some like one of the pics on their website.
Sometimes I like the weirdos!

Checking my notes, I emailed JS Dahlias on 1-5-2023 to inquire about shipping here (sadly, no) so he must have opened around then last year.

There's this site I found that has previous year opening dates for suppliers going back five years including JS Dahlias, as well as publically available open dates/times. OK, fine. It's the DahliaAddict.com site. Nevertheless, to people who support it by subscribing, it provides that info and much more. ☺

blown_dry I check the supplier list regularly. You never know when a new one will pop up that happens to have an obscure/rare variety. 🙂

Big Dahlias is up. I got AC Twist and a few others but missed Dick Westfall.

DarcyD It looks like it opened around 2am my time and things started selling out at about 4am my time which would have been when people were getting online on the east coast. I say this just to share info, not to complain. Glad you got many that you wanted. 🙂
