We haven't had a real freeze here yet. Starting to wonder... Anyway, tender stuff like this flowering maple and Mexican bush sage is partying like it's 1999....

I ordered about 10 iris...chose ones in blue/yellow/white range mostly...and all fragrant. Dahlias are the only non fragrant flower I grow. (And then only because there are no fragrant ones)

KitCMC The iris in your picture above is just dreamy! I think the ones in those shades were all sold out now...I just had to go with a nice selection from what was still available. I think there were not many in the pale pink and peach colors that were still available. Maybe next year on those....

JessieC the iris is ‘Concertina’ and I love its electric blue-purple beards on the soft apricot! The anemone corms are just a mix bag from Costco. I hope this one makes a few more to save over winter, because I don’t already have enough dormant plant roots to keep track of 😉

Iris is the name of my eldest. I grew them for a while, but was done in by borers. The coloring on Concertina looks amazingly graceful.

This was a good year for rhododendron blooms. I like this one that is planted on the west wall of our home and gets no particular care as it is in the "perfect place". It grows bout 12 feet tall and when it was getting too tall several years ago we trimmed it back. It has grown back but is not too tall. I like tall.

Teddahlia I absolutely ruined the shape of the huge azalea in our landscaping and I'm not sure how to fix it. Despite that, it bloomed the most I've ever seen in the 6 years we've lived here. I purposely never take pictures of the shape of it, but you can see the beautiful but totally ridiculous thing in the back of this picture of my rose bush.

I really like that variety of Rhody with the dark centers on lavender flowers. Has it been there longer than you, or might you know the name of it?

I love to embarrass people when I tell them the name of the flower is on the picture. We planted it over 30 years ago.

I think the way to fix the shape of that azalea is to prune back parts of it each year without doing an all or nothing job. It would be a shame to lose it from doing too much at once. In about 3 years it would all be renewed and back in balance.

I’m not sure renters will be interested in caring for the perennials that I’ve planted over the years so I’m happy to be enjoying Olivia Rose Austin before we move. This is the third year for this one and blooms are finally to-size and it looks like they’ll be abundant.

Roses vs. Dahlias. Two long time rose exhibitors joined our dahlia club and no longer grow roses. I am biased against roses and used to work with two rose fanatics. Two versus one at coffee break time. Chemical this and chemical that. Trim this and trim that. More spray mixed with more spray. One of them died of cancer a couple of years later. The other one quit growing roses when he sold his home.

Teddahlia I’m afraid I get too cranky with the thorns to take rose growing very seriously. I’ve definitely never done any pest control or chemical application. In fact, shamefully, I’ve maybe fertilized this thing twice in its whole life. I do think roses are extraordinarily pretty, and the wafting perfume through the backyard makes me very happy. But I guess not happy enough to bring her with me over the mountains.

Krista And that gives you an excuse to check out all the roses in your new neighborhood and see what does best in your new climate. And what catches your heart enough that you really want it!

I moved all of my David Austin roses out of their big pots and into the ground a few weeks ago...they are all still in shock and look horrible but hopefully new leaves will come in soon. Also, hopefully that was the right thing to do with them!
