It’s 87 degrees this morning in Yakima and it hasn’t even hit 9:30 am yet. This early week is going to be hot and I’ve moved all the grow bags, filling up the shady spaces in the yard. The plants that are either larger in size or planted in the ground seem to be doing better, but they haven’t seen 108 degrees yet.
We had friends in town over the holiday last week and their dogs didn’t much care whether they chased each other across lawn or dahlias. We had only one casualty to puppy-play which felt like a miracle. I’ve had about 6 plants fail in the heat from being planted too late and for being too small to tough through it.
I’m looking forward to next year when I’ll be able to plant on time and have a better success rate! The silver lining is that I’ve more space here and I was able to plant more than just one of many of my favorite varieties which will help with the loss this year!
