Krista Juliarugula Not sure if you do IG but I just saw Kale Lane Dahlias post an image of their HH Moonsong and it is super blushy! Interesting to see the variation.
Juliarugula Krista wow! What a difference - that’s crazy! I wonder if that’s a result of weather/fertilizer/soil, or if it’s a sport? I’m assuming the former, but I haven’t really noticed a huge amount of color variation on mine. I’d actually follow Kale Lane but I hadn’t seen that post yet.
JessieC Here are Ginger Snap and Ferncliff Copper. GS was a late addition and bloomed at around 80 days. It was just one tuber and the plant is absolutely gorgeous, with dark green foliage that has a distinctive scalloped edge. FCC came from my own tubers. The plant was very slow to start, and now it’s a sturdy monster in need of a whack. Last year, my FCC was much more yellow, I suspect because it got some shade in the prior location. The center is still a bit mangled. I’ve had four almost identical blooms so far.
Krista JessieC Pretty, I’m always interested and in awe of the variation of foliage! Cool to hear about GS’s!
AndreaB JessieC Here are Ginger Snap and Ferncliff Copper. Ginger Snap was one of the first dahlias I grew (many moons ago). And I don’t even think I saved the tubers back then! Might have to give it another try.
NCDahlia This was one of my HH Moonsong from last year pic from Nov 5, 2022. Really is just a fantastic dahlia. The voles got all 4 of my plants this year unfortunately so it's back on my buy list for next year... like so many others...
Teddahlia Color is combination of color pigments and the pattern of where the pigment appears in the flower. Your pattern for the darker pigment is picotee edges.
edewitt Misty Changeling is coming up with all sorts of variation with the blooms as well. I'm a fan of the ones with the unstable genetics. Verrone's Obsidian is back this year.
AndreaB edewitt I'm a fan of the ones with the unstable genetics. It’s yellow… but here’s another in the unstable group: Sternschnuppe
AndreaB Juliarugula yours is dustier than mine too. Now I’m really curious what coloring I’ll have! I probably have another 2 weeks before I find out. Oh, the suspense!
edewitt Krista Not really, I think the heat is making them all wonky. blown_dry What's weird is last year I bought one from Old House and the plant was super spindly and the blooms were ridiculously small and just a sad state of affairs. I'm really happy for the turnaround.
blown_dry edewitt Thanks for sharing these! I got HHCJ from Old House last year. I've been waiting to see if it is one of the survivors in my front bed. Some very cool varieties.
Krista edewitt Oh yes, the heat’s making everything wonky in my garden too - nevertheless they’re pretty this way too!
AndreaB On August 1st I had 72 varieties blooming. Just a week later, there’s another 52. 🎶 It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🎶 We all work so hard at this, it’s nice to be rewarded with such beauty, isn’t it?
