2023 - Dahlia Blooms
edewitt beautiful! Maybe another to go on my wish list.
Hollyhill Aurora! I was worried I might not have this one this year. Grew it last year and it made two whole tubers. I saved mom also. When I started cuttings in winter, neither mom nor tuber #1 sprouted, so I ordered a backup from Hollyhill, which also didn’t work out. So I was crossing my fingers for that last tuber!!
Wyn’s Ghostie’s is beautiful.
Bloomquist Mojo going through it’s lighter color phase.
Our stock of Aurora rotted for the first time in about 10 years.
"Hollyhill Tiger Rose" - 5" WL - a lot of great qualities. Long, strong stems. Very prolific. First 10 blooms on my only plant were all equally colored/variegated and, so far, no sports. This is important for cut flowers because, in many cases, the sported solid color is not attractive and wastes a spot in the garden. The few solid, dark-red, wolf petals I have seen so far on Tiger Rose hint that the solid sport of this one might be very desirable. I love the color of this girl but wonder if she would sell at the market?
Juliarugula Oh Wyn’s Ghostie is lovely!
And sometimes all you get is Henny Penny who just needs two beedy eyes and a beak! My two faced red bloom...weird!
Really loving KAs Bella Luna. The plant has grown like gangbusters and is covered in blooms with tons of petals and wonderful long stems… total winner!

It's my first time growing Kenora Lisa and I never noticed the first bloom opening up at all until it was almost open. I was out disbudding for over an hour before I saw it and it absolutely stunned me. The golden streaks are just so good!
Pictures don't do this variety justice, but it's rich and beautiful and has the dahlia shimmer. I really like it.
Tahoma Amble
MA_Dahlias really nice photo, thanks! What's the petal "substance' of KA's Bella Luna like?
MissyWeitzel Oh Kenora Lisa, pink-wow with the gold! This rain we’re getting in Seattle sure has been a relief. And the overcast lighting is nice for photos.
River's Phoenix, this is the second bloom holding steady at 3” for me - need a better regimented dis-budding routine apparently. I’ve finally begun disbudding but I’ve got some catching up to do, for sure.
Ad Lib being purple and huge! This angle hides the slightly open center on this first bloom, hoping the centers pull it together as the season continues.
Looks like I may have my first mislabel. Not sure what this 8” messy-centered situation is. I popped it into a FB channel to see if anyone recognized it, but came up empty handed. I almost missed it altogether because the stem is so short it was choked by stems and hidden, deep in the plant by the foliage. Of what I ordered this year, it maybe looks closest to (while nothing like) Bubbling Over.
Bessie Thank you for the Google Lens suggestion, that worked really well! Ugh though - of the results that populate I fear it looks closest to Café au Lait Rose, woof. And yes you’re right about figuring out where I ordered from. Unfortunately my tagging system requires an update - some of them slipped down the sides of their grow bags, and have disappeared until dig-season. I’ll make changes for the future when growing new-to-me varieties, lesson learned!
Ad Lib was bred by a doctor or dentist who was a member of the Portland Dahlia society before my time and I never met him. Medical term Ad Lib. It is known for the purple color and is normally some kind of variegated flower. Purple breeders were trying to use it but I doubt they were able to get seeds from it.

Krista your River’s Pheonix bloom looks so different from mine while obviously still being the same variety. Yours looks a lot deeper/rounder, but smaller, and nicely upward facing. The blooms from my plant tend to face downward unfortunately.
Juliarugula Ohhh interesting, I love hearing about the differences here. Yes, both of my blooms have had good bloom position and color, but boy is the size a little disappointing. I’m curious how our seasons progress for this one!
Teddahlia I love that you’re willing and able to share so much history with us here - I was having trouble getting much information about Ad Lib and you're connecting the dots. Thank you!
Gift tuber from Tall-Grass. It's about 4" and was labeled Beaucon White but it sure doesn't look like the pictures I've seen of it. Any ideas or am I just mistaken?
I received the same tuber as a gift but didn't have room to plant mine out so kept it in a one gallon pot for next year's trial. Your photos look about what I was expecting to see. It is supposed to be top facing so that might be a clue? The smaller size of yours could be a result of the hot weather you've been having. It is supposed to have good vase life and is that is one reason I am looking forward to growing it.
Juliarugula Wow!!
