I buy from both Annie's and Bluestone. There are wonderful nurseries around Portland but my husband does NOT love nursery shopping and I don't drive in the city. So being able to order on line is worth the postage for me. My goal this year is to actually get the perennial border I was ordering for last season planted . This will be my first real planting into the heavy clay and its been a journey learning about it and fitting the work in between days of scorching sun and days of creek flooding and cold rain. Lots of moles and voles here too so taking time out to make bulb cages for the lilies,etc delayed planting last year.

Santa Rosa Gardens is a good online nursery they ship nationwide. If you are wholesale also Walters Gardens but usually for bulk buying - use have a biz tax ID and u can get from them. They are the ones who make and trademark all the 'Proven Winners' plants you see at lowes and home depot.

I just winter sowed rose seeds collected from my David Austin rose Lark Ascending- it is such a pretty peach colour and the bees just love it- I hope I get some seedlings to sprout - it just covers itself in rose hips

Darce if it wasn't for dahlias and the fact I hate wearing gardening gloves, I'd go full on English garden rose crazy I think. I have 3 DAs and have been drooling over everything else in the catalog. Good luck with your seeds!

Darce Darcy, I have thought about this rose many times and I may still have to have it! I bought "Tottering By Gently" for my Birds and Butterflies garden and Keep wondering if I can fit this one in also!

Which English roses do you have ? The temptation to go overboard on DA roses is real lol!
I get enraptured by the DA website for sure -every rose there just is so romantic and lush!

Ted and roses are incompatible. When I was still working, I often went to coffee break with two "rose addicts". Both of them were the obsessive-compulsive types that considered the height of entertainment to be wandering through the roses with pruners in one hand and a spray bottle in the other. Enough said.

Ha! Yes there are high maintenance roses (with high maintenance rose obsessive gardeners lol).
I def count myself as a rose addict but take a decidedly relaxed- to the point of somnolence-approach. I don’t spray nor water purposely because my hose doesn’t quite reach so they are pretty much dependent on rain. I’ll prune unwieldy or broken branches but I don’t deadhead really as I like rose hips. My extent of benevolence is to just throw some fertiliser on occasionally. They either thrive or don’t survive!

The ones that make it through my survival of the fittest approach pay me back immeasurably for my lack of effort though

I haven’t had much luck with roses. I have a couple of “Easy Elegance” varieties that do pretty well, but they aren’t great for cutting. I always try some little bouquets anyway.

But they are lovely in the landscape.

Darce Oh my! Your roses are drool-worthy! My partner is not a fan of roses, but I was able to talk him into letting me put two in last year with hopeful promises of fragrant blooms all summer one day. I planted Olivia Rose Austin and an Earth Angel. I'd love to find a place for a climbing rose, James Galway is one I've drooled over in the DA catalog @MissyWeitzel, yours is just gorgeous!

I really really like that elegance series! I think what turns off a lot of people is the sometimes awkward look of the bush shape of the upright hybrid teas. Your roses have such a natural shape that is really pleasing in a landscape I think. I LOVE the colours you picked! That raspberry red especially just sings😍 some of my roses don’t last as long in the vase either but they make me so happy while those 3/4 days

I have James Galway and 2 Litchfield Angel.

Here's the former the first season I had it. It's now getting bigger and trying to climb so I just bought an obelisk and am going to train it to that. 😊

Ohhhh that James G is amazing - you just thrilled me to bits cause I have him arriving this spring as an own root band - it will take a few years to get him up and running but I can’t wait till I get masses of blooms like yours! We are DA rose twins obvi cause I have Litchfield Angel too - I love it- so palely pretty and sumptuous

James Galway is supposed to be a bit shade tolerant tolerant too if that helps! Such a pretty rose

Darce Very helpful indeed! Our backyard has become very shady in recent years as the neighboring single-family residences keep getting torn down and replaced with three-story townhouses. All of the still sunny spaces go to dahlias so shade-friendly is a plus!

If you go to the David Austin website it will let you search for their shade tolerant roses- I mean no rose really likes complete shade of course but there are some that will cope with a little shade just fine

If you have a wilder part of your yard with some shade I really like Darlows Enigma
The one pic is from High Country’s website and is a fully established floriferous in full sun rose- the other pic is my very young rose in the shade growing into a plum tree and over a large tree stump I left up for that purpose.

But if you want a fragrant voluptuous pink rose that is pretty thornless and which can take a bit of shade - this is your gal!
She is either called Isabella Skinner or Victorian Memory - and is v. fab and trouble free
