Please pardon the random thoughts that pop into my head as I blurt this all out.
My girlfriend's mom didn't really want to live by herself in Idaho so she found a place here last year and moved down. She recently purchased a huge amount of garden soil and has a very large pile leftover that she's offered up so I'm gonna take her up on it. I'd planned on building some more raised beds so this will come in handy.
I also made my own mix of soil for starting up the tubers in 4.5" square and 1 gallon pots which turned out to be super fluffy and it's working very well so far. Most of the orders I've received are already sprouting so I've got a few I'm definitely taking cuttings of like Zwink, Skipley Spot, and HH Margarita. I've already taken one of Pam Howden, HH PDX Sunset, Dr. John E Kaiser, and the few Hillcrest Kismet plants which are well established and getting too big to keep under grow lights. I'm not sure what to do with those plants yet but as they get bigger the foliage is taking a twisted/gnarled look to it like my HH Tempest plant did (but it was perfectly fine after awhile).
Ted was nice enough to send me some mystery tubers and a few labeled ones and I'm excited to see what those turn out to be. They've sprouted already and are getting pretty fat so it looks as if the garden is going to have a mystery section.
I'm not sure why but this past winter seems to have gone by quicker than most for me. I'm excited to get some tubers in the ground but I don't think I can do that for another month since frost is kinda unpredictable here even though it's already in the upper 70's this week. Now I just have to endure a couple of months of it getting into the 90+ degree weather until it cools down in July and the rainy season starts. Spring is summer here and summer is spring and it greens up in July/August. I'm imagining it's going to get way warmer in the next couple of weeks. Maybe I'll start pulling the plants in pots outside so they can get acclimated to the outside conditions.
I'm glad what started as a rough season for me has turned around pretty quickly especially after losing most of my tubers from last year.
