I managed my dahlias with a focus on disease management this year. Which means it was operation No Thrips. So hard with white dahlias. I let them bloom once and cut them back all summer. No blooms = decreased thrips. So my grand plans to have all these white blooms hanging around never came to fruition. Tubers should look nice though. I'll find out next week.
Have you tried Ryecroft Jan? It's a pretty bloom and my sister grew it for years...maybe still does... It just wasn't as speedy with pumping out the lateral branches for new blooms.
I'm thinking about planting Early Girl 3-4 weeks AFTER my typical planting time. I want to see if she'll produce better quality fall blooms with a later planting. She blooms so early and for so long by Sept she's already had around 60 day of bloom time.
I'm releasing another white in my next sale. It's a beast of a plant. @Teddahlia would love to walk down it's 6' tall rows. Each 3 node flower stem is over 20". Most of the time they are over 24". It needs support due to its height but it has an upright growth habit. Many of the stems are at 20* or less from the stalk. Take home point...no bending over to harvest. 😂
It holds up to field conditions like a champ (ie, no petal browning event on high index heat days) AND still had a strong closed center late in the season.
