Justafewdahlias I've found interesting good changes in second year seedlings, compared to how they bloomed the first year. If you have room, it might be worth learning if/how they look the second year. There's some deal breakers like down facing blooms, totally weak stems, etc. Thank you for sharing the results of your cross!

Cream color? Hollyhill Creamy.

Justafewdahlias in 2022 I received a mis-labeled unreleased tuber that was a cream colored waterlily from Hollyhill. It is the seed parent of one of my dahlias, so when I started mentioning it in this forum, @Teddahlia named it and released it. I'm not 100% sure that the Dahlia I have is the Dahlia he released as Hollyhill Creamy. It tends to go open center very easily, and it's seedlings so far are not impressive, except for prolific blooming 23049 which is an "almost waterlily", or "waterlily adjacent".

Teddahlia I wish the flower I call Hollyhill Creamy looked more like Hollyhill Snow Queen! I like the blush color with a cool white undertone of Snow Queen. Hollyhill Creamy has a warm undertone in all seasons.

Creamy is a 2017 seedling and much older than Snowqueen. Margaret culled most of our Creamy stock last year and we kept only two plants. She said the culled stock did not look like Creamy. I have not yet looked for the "new" Creamy in our garden and hope it does well and we will not be selling it. Meanwhile, lots of people say they really like Snowqueen(I only sort of like it) and Margaret is growing lots of it. New seedling is the correct color but we need to see it's form.

@Justafewdahlias "#p17513 To my eyes, and on my monitor, those look cream color. At the least I would grow the top variety again to check its potential as a cut variety.

This seedling bicolor combo would make a good test for cataracts. It has zero potential as a show, cut, or garden variety. Sometimes I will keep a seedling just because it has a trait I haven't seen before.

3 pink seedlings from 2025 that I am enjoying this morning..I started many seeds this year, kind of using up a lot of stored ones. In most cases I do not know the seed parent.

Here are 3 lovely pinks, all slightly skewed to the lavender pink side... and amazingly all are very deep full blooms. the largest is 8.5" sacross, the next is 4.5 and as deep as it is wide, and the smaller one is 4". The largest I have named "Martha Elmira" for my pioneering great grandmother... and ite just makes me happy, having her in a crystal vase where I can see it often! The one on the left has a little fringe on each petal like it had been cut with pinking shears. It is 5" in diameter and 4" deep so lots and lots of pinked petals!

The smaller one is a new bloom yesterday so I am just checking it out. The colors are soft but maybe a bit dull? I think anything might look dull next to Martha Elmira though!

New M FD seedling from Mission Gypsy opening up. This is the first flower and is only about 2.25" in diameter. Considering I have many named varieties with imperfect centers and some fading or odd coloring right now, I'll be keeping an eye on it later.

1st bloom 1st year seedling from Skipley Reboot. I'm starting to get a little pessimistic or maybe realistic. The gap in the center looms ominously.
Maybe it's a good thing I won't have time to check it frequently. A good friend passed away this week and I'm shaking my fists at her in heaven for picking then to kick the bucket and screw up my dahlia show weekend. Visitation tonight and Funeral and luncheon tomorrow. She's laughing at me I know. Gotta find the humor when I am super sad about losing her and I've been planning my artistic design entries for months. I'll still show a few things but I won't have time for much. Nobody better die the week of nationals!!

Margaret picked these seedlings yesterday with the intention of showing me what she found in the seedling patch. Some are second year.

I got to show these at the dahlia talk meeting, briefly. This was my first year growing my own seeds.
I’m a hobby grower, so I’ll probably end up keeping even the “bad” ones. 😆 Now that it’s cooling off in the Midwest, I’m excited to see how these change.
