HH Black Beauty seedlings have the propensity to take on the form of the pollen parent. Waterlily, formal decorative semi cactus and cactus are all possible. And of course informal decorative flowers abound. It also has spawned numerous colors yellow, red, blends and so on. Some are really dark red too. Size can vary to, with B, BB and miniature sized flowers. A good thing is that they generally have closed centers.

Thank you, Steve! I am excited with what I have been getting also. Since I was short on new tubers I planted a lot of older seeds . Lets hope I can collect enough new seed this year to fill my box of seeds back up! Also hoping for a good tuber harvest this fall. I need to map out what I want to grow again next year to make sure they all get saved from any weather disasters...It looks like I will need more space for growing these out in year 2 which mean less space for anything else. I've marked a number of seed pods to save...lets hope we have good weather for them to develop in!

MissyWeitzel I’ve had sooooo many green eyes this year. The weather’s been rough.

MissyWeitzel It would be interesting to see how it looks in a few days when fully open. I cut many varieties when they have green centers but by the time the florists get them the bloom has fully opened and the green centers have mostly disappeared.

calico20hill The yellow with purple edges seedling lasted the longest of any in the vase of seedlngs. I am just not sure about the combination of lavender and yellow....when lavender and yellow fade into each other you get brown...I guess I need to pick some more to try out as cut flower arrangements...

Also, powdery mildew hit and hit hard the last 2 days. And I have one sprained hand so will have to do any spraying with the non dominant hand...normally we have a lot of wind in the afternoon but the wind went down and let the mildew spores in, along with heat and strange humidity that have not been felt until this week. We are getting the breeze again this morning. Since I have to keep my number of dahlia plants to fit 6 raised beds, 25' long, I do plant thickly and cut down any seedlings that are not keepers.

I love that rare combination of "in-your-face" complimentary colors. (quite often my favorite colors do not sell well at the market)

You have the "seasonal" powdery mildew that lives in our forests and shows itself in early Fall. Sprays and such work well on it, especially if done sooner than later.

Its good to know that it just lives out there in the woods...which are all of about 30 feet from my garden. Maybe I can get ahead of it next fall...just do it at the end of August...or the week before.

1st year 1st bloom seedling. The bracts were super apparent from the start and that is definitely improving as it matures, as is the center, but I know both are faults as is now. Pros are awesome dark strong stems and ideal bloom angle. I'm working on being critical and using what I am learning while training as a judge when determining whether to keep a seedling or not. When I look at this I think it could either be an ID or maybe it's a tweener or maybe I need to simmer down and let it mature another couple days. Seed parent was stellar form. Front view I was shading it, side view is in full sun.

Stellar definition drives me crazy. Seedling is an informal decorative stellar and there should be a class for that but there is not. So informal decorative.

This is a 2025 seedling and I took the picture yesterday. I like the form. Is it a crappy color or a nice color? It is a solid color and not a blend.

I don’t grow that many whites so I’m not super familiar. Thot I’d ask here if the lines on this seedling are unusual or if there r more whites around like this that I’ve just not noticed it? The bugs have been at it so it’s not the most pristine looking bloom but with the weather we r having will most likely get frost in the next week so this is probably the best looking bloom I’ll see this season.

I had a 2023 white seedling with the lines and thought about keeping but then I used better judgement and culled it. It never looked right even at it's best.
