Fall has been here for a few weeks now and Winter is on its way. Upper 30s to low 40s at night and there's Termination Dust (first snow) on the front ranges of the mountains surrounding me. A lot of the dahlias are starting to die back naturally (along with all my other plants) but I'm going to give them until the weekend of the 23rd. Then everything is coming down. Everything is a good 4-6 weeks behind due to the abnormally cold season (although my mom reminded me this is what summers in AK were like when I was a little Erika). I'll be storing the majority of my plants in their pots. Plus side, it'll make things really easy next Spring.
I'm putting up hoop houses next year which will help alleviate alot of stress if this is the weather pattern we're in now. Will allow me to start earlier, go later, protect from wind and epic rain, give the bumblefloofers a dry place to rest (vs. me creating umbrellas for them with bubble wrap and bamboo stakes) and it'll help me better manage pest control. I totally should have put them up this year.
