A few hard frosts lately, but spring is taking hold for sure.

Teddahlia thanks for your feedback! I'm an impatient queen bee, always looking for a more efficient or better way. I attempted to do one to one pollination pairs, but couldn't keep the discipline when no seed produced. I'll see how my attitude adjusts once i get a peak at some of the flowers last years seed produces. Of all the dahlias in my yard, only two varieties gave me good quantities of viable seed. There was a monstrous 9' multi-flowered volunteer sunflower in the Dahlia growing area, so there were lots and lots of active bees. If I'm very dissatisfied with the seedling results, impatient or not, I'll need to change what I do to get seeds.

THis cracks me up! HEre is our weather forecast for this weekend,

"While forecast snow amounts are currently less than one inch across the interior lowlands, there is a small but nonzero chance for snow amounts in excess of two to four inches by late Saturday morning " So Ted, are you ready for the nonzero snow this weekend? I'd say we are as ready as we will ever be....

calico20hill Two to four inches?! That is a lot of snow for a "nonzero" forecast. 😆

We had about a foot of snow the other day but only an occasional half an inch or so would stick to the grass. All gone later in the day.

We’re getting ready for a nice thick 12” of snow with blizzard gusts this afternoon! The weather has been quite a rollercoaster. It was 60 and sunny on Wednesday.

Yesterday in the afternoon we were jolted from our seats by the crack of thunder. One intense kaboom and then the classic hail descended from the sky. Only one lightning strike. Hail lasted only 5 minutes. We do not get much thunder and lightning here and so that was unusual.

I think your thunder was our sleet storm. It was brief but rather dramatic. There was some hail in it. Actually I think it had moisture in every possible form. I was glad I have not set out any plants yet. There was still an inch or two of the snow from the last storm left on the raised beds.

Got 3 inches of rain over the last 48 hours so I have to move my compost delivery to next week. Was suppose to get 25 yards and im not trying to wheelbarrow it lol.

There was a 45 second spread between the first lightning strike and thunder. That’s a long time!

I’m not sure. There’s only about 3-4 inches accumulation, but I imagine a lot melted since we spent most of yesterday above freezing. It should disappear quickly - both today and tomorrow will be above freezing. Monday it’s supposed to get up to 55 F!

We have been consistently in the 70's and a few days in the low 80's for 2+ weeks. All spring flowering trees have been in full bloom & the weeds are already going full speed ahead (UGH), but next Sunday it is dropping down to 35 for SNOW SHOWERS -- fun, fun, fun?!

If the weather prediction holds we're about ready to head into first false Spring. It's 10 below tonight but expected to be in the upper 30s by Tuesday. Then we'll go into second Winter, followed by second false Spring, then third Winter THEN Spring shows up for real. Normally snow tires have to be off by May 1st. Sometimes it's extended to May 15th due to conditions. I'm hoping that doesn't happen this year but, given the over 7 feet of snow I have, I might still have snow piles until June. That's okay, I'll work around them. 🙂

Seven feet!? Merciful Heavens! I visited my oldest daughter for her 21t birthday (Feb) when she was a student in Anchorage. I was only there for a few days but it was like being on another planet. Washington was too tame for her when she left Anchorage so now she lives in Maine, LOL.

The news hyped us up all week about the 5-8" of snow we were expected to get yesterday. It ended up being an inch or two at most. Snow accumulation is completely normal for early March in Michigan, but it still feels soul crushing to me at this point in the season, no matter the amount. I want to plant my cool season vegetables, clean up the garden, and prep my dahlia beds dammit!

We got 8 or 9”. Super dense snow. I could almost walk on top of it. Beautiful sunrise this AM.

AndreaB what a beautiful morning, and photo! I’d love to be standing where you were when you took it. We don’t get lots in Seattle and I love snow. Although as @MissyWeitzel lamented, I will be happy to be getting out into the garden for some clean up and prep.
