Colors for 2025

Tuber vendors, cut-flower vendors, bouquet makers, arrangement designers, et al., what are the trends you are seening in dahlia colors for the upcoming 2025 growing season? I am getting many requests for peach and coral. Overall, not much different than last year except for the slight increased demand for "pink" dahlias.

SteveM I was just looking through wedding color trends on Pinterest earlier this week and I see green being huge - especially olive. Also navy blue, spice colors, and some jewel tones. Still some blush and light pink, white and cream of course too.

SteveM Any decrease is a good decrease. Haha.

Not so much in flower world which is still dominated by peach and blush but in photos of family members I have seen a lot more color! Bold punches of color. It’s a good thing.

I mean I personally love the new dahlias coming in rusty tones bc I love that fall look of bright colors and brown to rust but no idea if that’s a wedding thing.

I ordered one tuber of a "green" intro from some vendor (don't remember who and it wasn't olive green) so I will have to take many cuttings.🙂
Dahlia cut-flower breeders are way behind on breeding green dahlias. There should be many available by now, especially in the "lime" shades.

SteveM I grew Voyage green lisianthus this summer and it was amazing!!

I have Opinions about the color aesthetics I see and I tried to put together some photos to show them.

Dark, moody. Garnet, plum, amethyst, teal.

New cottage. Airy, wildflowers, furry, funky, light, pastel.

Joyful. Light, bright, airy, surprising, textural.

Modern farmhouse. Kind of. Neutrals, white, cream, dusty rose, more Martha.

Where does this leave Kelvin Floodlight? I do not know. 😉

bloomhjelm Yellow is definitely coming back. There has been a lot of yellow in recent fashion shows. Pale and muted can’t last forever. It violates the laws of fashion, art and the need of some humans to do something bold and unexpected. I have seen a lot more yellow in the more artistic flower designers I follow. That said, I think it is a warmer yellow and not a cold yellow.

This is Carolina Herrera spring 2025. She’s a very upper east side ladies kind of designer versus a bomb throwing avant garde sort and I think this bold punchy yellow in her show bodes well for a shift in taste. 🤞 From my lips to gods ears.

MissyWeitzel I grew three green lisianthus this summer and loved them all. They are such a fresh addition to any color scheme. I grew lisianthus pucchino I think it was called. Very small and such a nice note. Can go with anything. I grew Echo green too and a fluffy one that I neglected in a crate and so pfft that didn’t end well.

This is the Echo which was a later group. I still had some a couple weeks ago. The Pucchino was my first lisianthis to bloom. I will find pics. I would def grow that again. It didn’t read as lisianthus it was just a very nice textural addition. More like a spray?

silvarerum here's some of the Voyage green lisianthus. I just cut these and they are from 2nd and in some cases 3rd flushes so they're not as big and fabulous as first flush, but still awesome. I bought really large healthy plugs from a local greenhouse. I'm tempted to try to start some from seed because I really want to grow Roseanne Terracotta next season, but deep down I know it's a dumb idea. Since I don't grow them for my business I should not take grow room space away from dahlias and I'm not sure I want to baby seedlings starting in Nov or Dec!

Intense, pure yellow and 7 feet tall. We have been growing it since 2021.
Small BB size.

I've been saving this cheery-yellow, 2006 seedling with the anticipation that "yellow" will some day be a popular wedding color. She is a seedling of "Camano Tall Cotton" and is a prolific 6 feet tall. Maybe I will keep her one more year.

Wow, Steve! I love that shade of yellow! If you ever want to get rid of it throw some my way! This is a very NW kind of yellow, like sun breaking through fog along Puget Sound on a summer morning.

Picture of HH Regal. The one on the left used the color gamut(palette) of Adobe, and on computers it included more colors for blue and purple. On the right is the standard srgb that is used on computer monitors. When I sample the color in various spots the color of the flower on the Adobe side it has more blue value. However when you see the same area on your computer monitor they look pretty much the same. I believe computer monitors are set up just to show srgb colors and do not show the blue that is contained in the flower on the left. In other words, even though the picture has more blue in the values for each pixel, our monitors cannot display those specific colors and substitute the version we see that does not have enough blue.
