todgor Whenever I add a new seller I make note of it in the news.
If they are open at adding, they will get the whole "just opened" foo-ferrah even if they have been open for months.

AndreaB Interesting (to me) that Belle of the Ball is starting to resurface. I know of three places that had it (in very ltd qty) for 2023 after nothing for some years.

I first saw it at Cowlitz River’s sale and it stopped me in my tracks. Sometimes the names lure me in as much as the flower. I’d like to pair Belle of the Ball with my River’s Silver Slippers!

Has anyone familiarity with Bloomquist Winnie? It's A-size and intensely colored so I took a chance on it even though I could find no corroborating info.

AndreaB Belle of the Ball is one of those that had a lot of fans, but doesn't make prolific tubers and had gotten to the point that healthy stock was a unicorn, and then it disappeared from the market completely. I'm just surprised and cautiously optimistic that it has risen from the dead, and to go from no suppliers to three suddenly is a positive shift. Maybe partly the result of increased interest in dahlias in general?

I jokingly refer to dahlia varieties off the currently available seller lists as "dahlia dark matter". They could be out there somewhere still but are out of visibility. Shiloh Noelle was one that almost was extincted but probably due to its viability as a wedding flower has been spread far and wide lately. I am a big fan of Belle of the Ball but I only grew it well once.

Jess believes strongly that dahlia shopping should be stress free. For that reason, you’ll never see her have an “opening”. You can sign up to be notified by email when varieties are available. Ken Greenway is a friend & mentor of hers. That’s the AC connection.

AKWindWatcher That's her spiel. Last I heard she had restricted access to her sales emails to previous customers and people that had donated to her causes. She has every right to do that. But she's said mean things about me and to me so it doesn't really feel stress free for me personally, for what it's worth.

blown_dry I’m sorry, but not surprised. She was dismissive and belittling in so many online groups last spring, especially regarding virus & customer service concerns. I got major Regina George vibes 😆 “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

To be clear, no one has to pick sides or anything. I don't want that! But any efforts to limit lauding her for how much she cares about people's mental state where I can hear it would be taken as a favor.

I felt triumphant getting out of Sungate’s with Jennie, Seabeck’s Hilda, and Camano Pet. I know there were more sought-after varieties being offered but I am very excited to add these to this year’s line-up!

I just counted and I have placed orders with 18 vendors. I knew it was bad. I just didn't know it was that bad.

Regarding Jess Dahlia, I don’t think there’s anyone out there who doesn’t wish tuber shopping was less stressful. But I certainly don’t find not knowing when a site opens to be less stressful. Or having to jump through other hoops. (And personal attacks are beyond ridiculous and childish)

The best stress free dahlia shopping experience is your local dahlia society tuber sale. (Although maybe those get heated in dahlia hotspots like the west coast - I don’t know. our society is on the smallish side but an amazing group of growers and hybridizers, so maybe it’s the sweet spot)

(I still bought some of the AC intros though because you do what you gotta do)
