I don't think she is tech savvy and her internet stuff all literally went poof and had to be rebuilt from scratch at the same time she became a caregiver for her son. I'm sure she didn't mean to offend anyone.
2023 Orders & Openings Chat
i was late to the Cowlitz opening, and i knew of her opening time via email. Not sure if it was because i recently renewed subscription or not. But her varieties went fast, a very high percentage in the first hour. Unfortunately, i did not place an order. But will keep an eye out for round 2. Last year, she had another sale which included a lot more cuttings. Not sure if she is doing that this year.
Just from the announcements on her site and Facebook page I got the impression she seemed a bit stretched thin with all that was going on. Caregiving, tuber dividing/inventory, entering it in to a new system, setting prices, etc... honestly I'm pretty impressed.
addicted First I was told to enter a password. I had never used one for Cowlitz.
She locked her site for a bit while they prepared for the sales so that's probably why you got the password prompt.

My experience was similar. I decided on the 2 roots I wanted most, one of which was Salish Twilight Girl. I knew I had to have a $25 minimum . Then I thought "what if one of these isn't available when I check out and I don't have $25 worth?", so I added a third and placed the order at exactly 5:00 pm EST. It went! Then I got a message: The second one I ordered was gone but STG and my "extra" were still in the cart. Deleted the unavailable one and filled out all the shipping information again. Hit order. Sorry STG unavailable - at which point I shut down my browser. I don't understand when I was paying by PayPal and they greet me with a message that "we recognize you on this browser and there's no need to sign in", why I had to fill in all my mailing information. Pay Pal already has all that and if I hadn't had to type it all in TWICE I might have gotten at least one of the roots. There has to be a better way!
Ugh! You thought ahead on the issue that brought me down, but there were more hurdles! I'm so sorry. My browser fills in my name and address successfully in pretty much all carts, so that might be part of why I usually have good success.

I am sorry but also glad I was not the only one! It makes you feel so stupid and frustrated! I went to the list of suppliers and found she has a new address for her site so I got myself onto her list now. And she has a new email as well and that was what I did not know before. Generally I talk to her at club meetings or just over facebook EXCEPT when ordering. I think I have been to only one "In person" meeting of the club for months. I am feeling much better about it since one of our group offered me Allen's Smoky Skies. The others I can wait to pick up later or at club sales, and yes, there are more I want but realistically I don't have room for ones that I would not want to include in breeding. I really love Allen's fimbriated ones though! The Allen's variety that grew best for me last year was Annabelle. It made a lot of tubers and the flowers are not so large that I can't include them in my house bouquets. It is amazing to see what he comes up with in his plants!
THank you Steve for keeping your eye out and letting me know that Garden of Eden has Allen's Smoky Skies. Now If I can just get it to make tubers for me!

At Cowlitz I got Allen’s High Voltage, Allen’s Lady’s Choice and Allen’s Starfire. Would you be interested in any of those for your breeding because I would be happy to send them along to you!

Sounds like there's gonna be some very sore people in the near future that didn't abide by Teresa's tuber limits she posted all over the site. She's going through the orders and getting ready to bring the hammer down with an order cancellation and refund. So there's probably gonna be some tubers available again at some point.
Maybe I should just cllick on her site every morning and see what might have changed overnight? And why do I find Eric's comment hilarious?
I'd do that and then shoot her an email via her website in a couple of days after she gets everything sorted. She's in the process of letting everyone know that checked out with Rolf for $0 that it was an error and it's actually $12. I'm sure that'll make a few more people sore but they should've known it was an error. I definitely was not expecting that I'd get that for free after seeing the invoice for $0 for it.
calico20hill why do I find Eric's comment hilarious?
I did too, Noni! It’s a funny visual.
blown_dry I agree. Teresa is one of the nicest people I have dealt with. She was one of the ones that got me excited about dahlia growing when I talked ot her at the first dahlia show I attended in Portland 20 years ago. She has had some hard blows to deal with, particularly having her son so ill and him having a stroke. She and I have traded tuber stock several times and she always has a lovely smile for me at meetings. I think I will just wait and see and talk to her in person when I get a chance...and I am also keeping an eye out for any updating on her site. I usually make my husband drive to her house to collect my order since it is not vary far away...just a pretty drive across the Columbia River and up the Cowlitz River. I am in favor of things that make her work easier and less stressful.

edewitt I'm one of those doofs who flubbed their order, not once, but three times. I'm not sore though, and will fully welcome the refunds when they arrive - they would have been three tremendous errors. I will say, I make a muck of orders so frequently that I'm feeling sheepish to be chatting in this forum. I made a heck of a mess of orders with Honken that make me wish I could hide forever. It's my MO I guess. LOL. ouch.
I had a nice note from Teresa today...we are blaming the problem on an internet glitch, but she has my list now and will start cuttings of any she might be short tubers of. Considering that we had terrible internet service here when we first moved in 3 years ago, I would not be surprised if we did miss something, but our internet has improved a great deal since our neighbors put in cable back to their house behind ours.I am so grateful to them! Now we can actually get phone calls and hear them through to the end, where as before we often lost them during the conversation. It really surprised me that this close to Portland we would have intenet difficulties, but we are just a little "village" along in an older farming/logging community along the backside of the Columbia River. Which is why we moved here.
calico20hill I am so happy to hear that you were able to connect and that she can help you. Lucky you have folk like @blown_dry and myself to ensure that there will be refunds and available stock after the sale. In all seriousness, what a relief, this is joyous news!
