WanderingDahlias blown_dry This was the first bloom and I’m quite happy with the center. Would hope it will tighten as the plant matures. Around 4” Bessie
WanderingDahlias Krista I did start many early and our spring in Missouri came early so I got a jump start.
Juliarugula WanderingDahlias ah, now I see that it’s KA’s Coral Sea. Also, I learned that if you click on the highlighted area with the name of the person being replied to, a text window with the original post will show up. What a cool feature!
MissyWeitzel Maks Royal Ruby and Taratahi Ruby. I think Taratahi is on the left, but I took the pic early this morning and I'm not sure I could tell them apart now. I need to look at the plants closely tomorrow and see if i can notice any leaf or plant habit differences there. They both have the same lighter color on petal reverse and a little yellow just at the very center. Has anyone grown both? I've had Maks Royal Ruby for 2 years but Taratahi is new to me this season.
BackyardBouquets_17 Usually when I plant my dahlias I will plant like 3 gladiolus in between each one ( just to maximize space) this yr due to health issues the Gladiolus got planted later and I now have them blooming at the same time as my dahlias. Wasn’t sure how it’s going to work since usually the Gladiolus bloom a little bit earlier before the dahlias get to huge and shade em out but they did still bloom. The dahlia is Genova and you can see a gladiolus blooming in the row as well.
Teddahlia Margaret wants to name our new copper colored seedling and we are thinking about the name Copper Queen but she is having second thoughts. Is that a good name and what would be good name for a flower that is copper on the face of the petals and red on the reverse? No picture as Margaret is not ready to share a picture.
Krista Teddahlia what would be good name for a flower that is copper on the face of the petals and red on the reverse? Hollyhill Funky Cold Patina Sorry, just a joke. After it wafted through my brain, I couldn’t resist sharing 😅 [Edited for context: Funky Cold Medina by Ton Lōc]
Bessie Two new tuber grown dahlias blooming: This one didn't bloom last year, but here's the first bloom this year, in full sun till about 2pm. From Swan Island. From River's Dahlias, growing in lots of shade till afternoon :
Juliarugula I’m really enjoying Gregor’s Mikkel. I didn’t expect to be nearly as taken with it as I am.
Krista Juliarugula Wow, I think this is the best photo I’ve seen of this one. Until now, I’ve been on the fence with this one for sure. I do love a tri-color!
Juliarugula Krista funny thing is, my Hollyhill Snowfire seems to be settling into bicolor behavior, and that has made me sad. But I feel like Gregor’s Mikkel is a good fill-in for the tricolor w/variegation that I was missing. I’ve heard it described as “brown” before, which is just … not accurate.
MissyWeitzel Krista ok since you had a funny one, I'll share the one I didn't post earlier. 😅 Hollyhill Coppa Feel
Krista Juliarugula Gregor’s Mikkel coming in hot with the tri-color save! It really does just glow from within, so beautiful. MissyWeitzel Hollyhill Coppa Feel I’m so glad you shared! 🤣🙌🏽
