Am I reading the Dahlia Addict News page right? North Cascade has about 150 new intros?

Are these a backlog of years of hybridizing I'm guessing? How does the Bloomquist family do it? I'm having a hard time recognizing the names of ones which were sold last year.

It's great as there truly is something for everyone. At the same time the scarcity-based buyers will focus on 2 of the 300 and ignore the rest.

Me too. I tried sorting by “newest” and that helped a bit. Sort of. Presumably you could also try sorting by price, High to Low.

Paul Bloomquist once entered 18 new ones into the Tacoma trial garden. I do not remember how many passed but many did not. I am surprised that Bloomquist Jean is not yet for sale. He did not sell tubers himself but for several years had Les Connell sell for him.

Teddahlia Triple Wren came into being about the time that Les Connell passed away and one of the the things that motivated them was their friendship with Paul Bloomquist . They wanted to give him an outlet for the beautiful flowers he was breeding. They handled all his introductions then until his family decided to get into the business....

Teddahlia Of course the year that Bloomquist Jean was the Federation Dahlia of the year, I did not grow it. I have a few tubers of Skipley TNT Ball for spring and hope to grow a few of those.

Skipley TNT Ball is very nice and shows well. As a judge, it seems to have slightly different form as compared to other show balls. Not a bad thing. One grower of it claimed it had excellent vase life. My Bloomquist Jean grew over 6 feet tall and had nice blooms. I planted it next to a secret weapon seed maker plant and hope to get some "B" sized or at least BB sized seedlings with good form. The seed maker plant made nice seeds. Note: No hand crossing here just plant next to a plant stuff.

blown_dry I also wish they'd let you filter by form/color/size or at least put the info in item descriptions.

Website maintenance and marketing is such a headache. I don't envy any growers the size of North Cascade.

From the point defiance trial garden. (The flower has better form then what’s pictured I just used this pic to show the color) I am patiently waiting for the new into list to see what this one is. It is dark red but the reverse of the petals has almost lines of pinkish color that make it look like it’s holographic and glowing in person when you catch a glimpse of the sides. Photos especially a profile photo can’t capture how cool this flower is.

Also this bright red cactus type dahlia. During the heat wave of nonstop 90 degree days this red one didn’t fade. So many other blooms in the trial garden were getting washed out and this one was so vibrant and held its color. I never thought I would want to buy a bright red dahlia but this one I do.

I was surprised to see that it looks like Lobaugh’s didn’t offer Suitzus Julie this year since it’s gained in popularity as of late. Perhaps I just missed it in the lineup. I’ve been trying to reduce the shopping this year but even so, I wouldn’t have intentionally missed Lobaugh’s or Big Dahlias this year if I’d had my brain on!
