Krista It's B-sized, glowy and a productive farm fave. I was sold. 🙂 My plan not to order anything new is not going so well.

I added Sidehill Will to my grow list tonight, and it got me looking up just how many Sidehill dahlias I could find online. The ADS OCG and Dahlia Directory each had about two. Ended up being way more than I thought. Grateful to Rainfall Gardens in TN for bringing photos to Facebook. I understand Ray Phillips belongs to the Knoxville DS and a lot of these are also from a garden tour he did.

Same 🫠 If I can just purchase fewer than last year I’ll feel accomplished. Giving ourselves a huge margin will make success achievable in this lost cause. 😆

Never heard of Sidehill. Who was the breeder and where?

Teddahlia Ray Phillips from Knoxville, TN. Sidehill Trishie is the only one of his I had heard from until a couple months ago. Then I noticed other Sidehills in online sales this fall. I got Sidehill Will from Black Penny Farms and another grower I trade with had Sidehill Claypot.

I have heard the name Ray Phillips in the context of his showing abilities. Anybody who can grow dahlias in the fickle weather of Tennessee, has to be really accomplished.

FGL Dahlias catalog opened this morning. Some fun ones sold out already (no luck for you if you wanted Dutch Baby or Hollyhill Warlock). I'm so excited for the ones I ordered, though.

I grew 6 plants of Hollyhill Warlock this year. Last year it was it's normal variegated color and very nice. This year they are all solid red. I gave one tuber of the variegated version to a club member and his was a wonderful variegated plant. ☹

Also, umm…. I might have been the person who purchased all 5 Hollyhill Warlock tubers from FGL. 🥴. I’m hoping at least one or two work out (since FGL has some pretty negative reviews).

Ted, if they work out I’ll send some your way next year.

bloomhjelm what did you order? I only ordered HH Warlock, but they sure have an extensive catalog!

Oh, gosh. I went ham. My tubers from FGL last year were so nice. I was only unhappy with one which ended up going open center on me, but the tubers themselves were great.

This year I got Fern Ridge Pride, Barbarry Forum, Sandia Echo, Penhill Nigel Thompson, Chi Chuckles, 20th Ave Queen, Ferncliff Prelude, Ferncliff Pink Phasia, a bunch of FGLs, Lucky Lola, Obo Dee, Obo Diane, Obo Dad, and Oreti Ella. I got Alpen Spence with the hope of sharing it with the dahlia society that is looking for all the Alpens.

bloomhjelm that’s awesome! Were you the one who’s been looking for Fern Ridge Pride?

I’m so excited to hear your order from last year was nice! I was super nervous to order from them because of the reviews I read, but Hollyhill Warlock has been my white whale for a few years now so I decided to cross my fingers!

Guys, I've bought nothing!! It's a small miracle. I'm trying to downsize and only get new intros and favs I've lost.

bloomhjelm My tubers from FGL last year were so nice.

That's awesome. I've been missing them. I think I may add them again, with a note to mind the reviews and leave a review if one gives them a try.

Happy to see Kale Lane is carrying the Boley dahlias this season. Websites are awfully time consuming to keep up, and Kale Lane is the waterlily nexus for sure.

I don't remember why, but I didn't send in my order to Birch Bay until a couple days after open and guaranteed myself I wouldn't get anything.

I bought from Goldenrod this morning. Some of her varieties seem to have double centers, green centers and inconsistent petals -- not that lovers of pretty flowers will care -- so I didn't go for those. But I chose a couple to buy purely for trades. 🙂
