Does anybody have info on Ferncliff Gardens opening? Seems like they often open September 1, but I haven’t heard anything about an opening date yet this yea...

DarcyD Would you recommend River's Can't Elope as a good cut flower? Were there other River's tubers that you would recommend as good cut? Does anyone else have recommendations? This coming year I'm concentrating on growing filler flowers and dahlias for bouquets. Happy new year, dahlia friends!🎊

Flowernut OMG yes. It was very good. Rivers has quite a few cut flowers that are great. It’s more about your needs.

I just checked DA for the long list of openings some already have. Some are coming. 🥳

Rivers Rosie was very good at the 2023 trial garden lots of nice cut flowers.

Teddahlia Good here in Chicago too. I need to make sure she’s not so shaded next year though. I had her next to a hydrangea.

DarcyD Happy New Year! I think I'm just working tomorrow. Jan 1 is historically the highest traffic day on DahliaAddict. I might try to treat myself to some statistics, but everyone seems to have arisen from their holiday-making and started industriously updating their catalogs. Lots of updates over the last two days.

I can’t believe I managed to check out with 2 tubers of Hollyhill Cafe Rose at the Chelan Butte sale today! 🎉🤯

I think it was a big help that there were a million sales happening all in one morning. It spread the buying craze out a bit.

I'm not a fan of cuttings. However, I just ordered a couple cuttings from Heron's Nest. Has anyone ordered from them in the past? Fairway Pilot has been rolling over on my waitlist for a few years. If all goes well, I will have a beautiful AA plant in my garden this year. I also snagged Lu Lu Island Art (tuber), another cultivar that has been rolling over on my wish list. I was surprised it was still available at Chelan well after opening.

MIDahlias Oh No 😭 I was being so good & not ordering new varieties....I hopped over to Herons Nest after seeing your comment & got 9 cuttings....that's what I whittled it down to after I took a bunch out of my cart. I haven't ordered from them before but did hear them speak on a series of dahlia talks with the painter lady from Iowa (I forgot her name) & they sounded like they knew what they were doing.

I saw that one prior to opening and thought to myself “… that looks a lot like my AC Twisp?” 🥴

The colors were more saturated and leaned more heavily pink, for sure, but otherwise close. But AC Twisp hasn’t been a variety that has a lot of bloom variation for me, other than some very slight difference in saturation based on the start vs end of season.

All of which led me to wonder if maybe the seller wound up with a cool sport?

I didn't check Hidden in Thyme. I heard they removed several varieties prior to sale, to save for the spring sale.

I bought from River Merle, Chelan, and Heron's Nest this morning. I wasn't trying for any of the new Japanese releases from Chelan which may have helped. I was excited by Janny P because I need more crazy fims. And finally got a Ms Lisa to my name.

Via a planting friend in Czech, I have several Hapets to try, mostly decorative and bright colors.

bloomhjelm I noticed this with several small farms this winter. I don’t know if it’s intentional, or last minute concerns about storage (or some of each), but it sure messes up my plans.

Bessie The coloring does seem very similar! I don't get the sense they are the same though. It will be interesting to see if the 'real' name ever comes out. Maybe it will be offered as a cutting later.

Fun morning. I actually really like the Chelan does it. I have better luck getting what I want. I ate breakfast through the RM one thinking it was an hour later. Ooops. I did manage to snag a few though.

Chelan had Wyn’s Desert Sunrise, which like all Wyn’s, I’m very excited to grow! Also tried a Shiori. It looks like it has a high petal count. Has anyone seen the Japanese varieties in person?

I totally missed that Heron’s Nest had a separate page for their cuttings. There were several I’ve been looking for but were sold out. Crossing fingers for a restock!
