I bet my husband would love this project! He is really having a lovely time building things now that he is retired. Current project is a catio for our 2 new kitties, so they can be outside but safe from coyote, etc.
I imagine the photo box like a wooden box on a pipe that could be turned to get the right sun or shade on it. There would be a rod to hold different cloth backgrounds and or different painted heavy "cards" could be slipped in to change the color Maybe some LED lights behind a framework that throws light on the flowers but are hidden from the camera?
Other ideas from photographers about mood lighting?
