Hi Missy! Yes I actually went to the show last August (I think?) at FMG - that was awesome! My mom and I drooled over the Kelgai Ann bloom that won the big prize, put it on our list, and she snagged a couple tubers of her for us for this season. Great to know the meetings are at member gardens in the summer, that is so fun! I love garden tours. Maybe we'll get a chance to meet soon. Do you think you will you be hosting a meeting this year? Also, I know you mentioned being a member of a flower coop, is it the one in Middleville that used to be Creekside?

wildabundancemi I hosted last July and that's enough hosting for me for a few years. Maybe forever. 😆 Yes, I did the collective in Middleville last season and I decided it's not for me. I'm possibly open to doing a co-op or a different operational model that is member run in the future, but TBH I like doing my own thing and my customers keep me busy.

Grew up in Southeastern PA, which I still miss. Live in the San Juan Islands in NW WA coast - been up this way for 45 years. Supposedly a zone 8 here - until we get a zone 6 killing winter event, as in the past 3 years - this one was the worst.

"......in the middle of New Mexico." This is where location is is only partially useful. Elevation can make a big difference and if you are at sea level in many Southern states you would have "Death Valley weather" and at much higher elevations, you can actually grow dahlias. So , what is the elevation there in New Mexico? When do the UV rays at a higher altitude harm the dahlias?

6500 ft. elevation and the dahlias seem to handle the consistent 9+ UV index days pretty well during the summer/early fall.
