edewitt I figured we could use a thread dedicated to off-topic thoughts/discussions despite many of us going off-topic practically everywhere in here already 😉 (not saying it's a bad thing). This one won't require much of an effort to segue the discussion to whatever random musing you have at the moment.
edewitt Here's the lamb line-up for the year. 1st pic Left-right Bjorn, Bonsai (top middle), Bjork, then Venus, Tex, (Henri)Etta (the tiniest and sweetest), and Goliath who was so big we had to help his mom deliver him. Goliath was almost as big as the lambs that were two weeks older than him.
Krista edewitt You have sheep?! Gulp! My partner and I talk about our future farm where there will be sheep and goats and cows and ducks. I grew up with horses in rural southern Indiana and, while Indiana doesn't entice me, having livestock of some sort or another does. My grandmother on my father's side emigrated here from Norway and we have lots of "Bjorns" in my family; I'm partial to him with his almost all-pink nose. Goliath; so aptly named my goodness. And I agree with @Darce, Etta couldn't have a sweeter face. This is a discussion that will never be "is:ignored!" Darce Does this cheeky holy terror have a name?
KitCMC edewitt I sympathize with Goliath’s mom. My youngest was giant. She deserves some extra snacks.
edewitt Krista They're dorpers. My gf bought them for workin' the border collies we have and also for meat. I was slightly traumatized with the first meal we had partly because I knew the little jerk all his life and it was begrudgingly tasty which was weirdly upsetting. He managed to father quite a few of this last batch of lambs and you can definitely tell from all the ram lambs acting just like their dad.
Darce The winter jewels series are more elaborate and fantastical while pine knot’s hellebores are simpler but they are really really graceful and pretty This is my pic of the all the assorted flower colors in the six packs one they reached blooming size (all except the very black double - that is from winter jewel series)
Darce Sorry meant to post this in different thread! My apologies Truly living up to the title off topic!
Darce edewitt I know I could never raise goats (even if I had a farm) because I would get attached! It would wind up being me and a bunch of goats on the sofa watching Bob’s Burgers and eating tofu lol. Which makes me suuuuuuuch a hypocrite because I had the yummiest lamb tamales last night (an equally cute and frolicsome creature)
Krista edewitt Dorpers! I just googled them - thank you, they’re just very sweet. But lamb is delicious, and I imagine even more so when you can raise them yourselves, with care. And now I can’t wait for photos of your border collies!
Darce Ack I said goats when I meant lambs but you get the idea - I am really not covering myself in glory in this thread🤣
edewitt Darce Yeah don't mind me. If I do a "laugh react" I'm laughing with ya. Here's the border collie bunch. We've got Wren a shorthair, Johnny, and Priscilla she's quarter Corgi, quarter Border Collie, and half Australian Shepherd. She basically looks like a Corgi with regular legs.
Juliarugula edewitt they’re so beautiful! My project this weekend was building a fence, which I’ve never done before. I was surprised at how uneventful the project was. It took me three days, about 40 feet of fence (we had the rest of the yard done about 3 years ago, but this last section remained chain link. Leo “helped”.
Darce edewitt I have never had a border collie but I have a Australian shepherd- Rufus is so smart! He sometimes ‘herds’ his stuffed toys in faint rememberance of his working dog heritage but he is truly more suited to be a foppish aristocrat 😆
Krista edewitt They are just the sweetest little pack. And they have their very own flock of sheep, what lucky pups!
Juliarugula AndreaB oh hey look! Your puppers look like my pupper! That one in the back looks like she/he is plotting something…. 😆
